How long do dentures last?

Q.
I currently have dentures, after many years of treatments at various dentists and continuous pain and abcesses, I gave up and opted for excision! I am happy to keep the dentures, but I was wondering how long they last, my mouth seems to still be shrinking, despite having the troublesome teeth removed 3 years ago, this is my 4th plate! many thanks

Dear Enquirer,
A good set of well made dentures should last you many years. As you age, you can lose bone support in your mouth and the dentures can become loose, in which case they can possibly be relined, saving you from having a new set made. It’s best if your dentist can examine the denture to give you a professional opinion.
