How long after root canal treatment are you fitted with a crown?

Q.
Hi Doctor,
I was assessed by my dentist and
I have to undergo root canal treatment on one of my lower tooth. My dentist has told me the procedure and that the crown is put on within a few weeks after treatment but I went to get a second opinion at a private dentist and he told me the permenant crown is put on 6 months to a year after the initial treatment so that they can check if procedure has gone well and no bacteria is infected the area. What would be usual way to do root canal?

Thank You

A.
There is some variation that is down to the preference of the dentist, the strength of the residual tooth and also how well the procedure goes. Asd long as you are aware that root filled teeth should be crowned in the short – medium term I would be relaxed about the decision. When the root canal is completed the dentist will have more information to base advice on.
