How can I get rid of the gap in my teeth?

Q. Hello Im 33 years old, I have a large gap between my top front teeth, (half a centimetre) which Ive had since I was a child, most of the women in my family have it. I hate it & in recent years it has really affected my confidence & made me feel very self conscious, to the point of sometimes I dont go out when it really gets me down. I lost a tooth a couple of years ago and since then the gap has gotten bigger also. What methods are there to get rid of this? I should mention Im pretrified of the dentist. Ive read about bonding, what is it exactly? Could I have the gap filled with gold filling? Or I was thinking even something like putting a jewel in the gap but I cant find a dentist who can do that. My aunt had veneers but the gap was so big her front teeth look too big now. Regards,
A. In a case where the gap is moe than half of the width of the adjacent tooth it may be better to reduce the widthhgap by about 2/3. the rrsidual 1/3 may be the best comprimise. To test the idea you can simulate treatment brfore starting by using photosim or trial modification to casts of your mouth. Porcelain tooth veneers or cosmetic bonding with filling may be likely options. An initial consultation is free at practices like StJohns Dental. Call 0121 643 0610 Regards Rob
