Do I Have To Pay For Braces Treatment Now That I’m 18?

Q.
Hi, I’m 18 and I just wanted to ask a few questions about braces.
I had braces when I was 12 and my teeth were perfect but my retainer snapped so it was really hard to wear it because it kept cutting my skin so I stopped wearing it so often. Now my teeth aren’t as straight as they were and I wondered if I could have any sort of brace for free or would I have to pay? I really don’t like my teeth anymore and occasionally I end up biting the sides of my cheeks with my teeth when I’m eating and it’s so sore.
Hope to hear from you soon, Thank you.

Hi. Unfortunately as you’re over 18 you would not be eligible for ‘free’ braces (on the NHS I presume you’re referring to?). Elective aesthetic treatment has to be paid for privately. You can find out more about the various brace types available through the orthodontics page on this website. If you find a practice in your area which offers a payment plan, you can spread the cost of treatment to make it more manageable. I hope this helps. Kind regards, Mark.
