Hello Dr Hughes. I really hope you can help me. My teeth are stained and no matter what I seem to do, they never get white and I want a perfectly white smile. What would you advise me to do? I tried various toothpastes with baking soda. I even tried using baking soda by itself, I used super smile, it didn’t work. I brush my teeth 2 times a day and brush them for a minimum of 2 minutes. Are there any treatments that could help me with this problem? Thank you for taking the time to listen to me.

I Seem To Have Tried Everything To Get Rid Of The Stains On My Teeth. What Can I Do To Get My Smile Whiter?
Thursday, May 29th, 2014My Dentist Changed My Nice Veneer For An Ugly, Yellow One. Do You Know Why He Changed It?
Thursday, April 17th, 2014Hello Dr Hughes. I hope you can help me with something that has been bugging me. My dentist removed an attractive front tooth veneer because it had fallen off once. He said he could use a far superior one so I put my trust in him. After 5 weeks of waiting with a temporary veneer he put an ugly yellow, translucent veneer one on which looks awful and is worse than veneer he removed. He also drilled a lot of healthy tooth away prior to doing this. It has a rough surface to it and completely alters my smile. It has knocked confidence. Do you have any idea why he did this? Thank you for taking the time to reply to my enquiry.
Would MAC veneers be an option for my stained teeth?
Wednesday, September 26th, 2012Hello Mark,
I would be very grateful for your advice.
I currently have ceramic pressed veneers on my two upper front teeth. I injured myself when I was young which deadened one of the front teeth and I had root canal treatment on it. It is grey in colour. I had veneers fitted to my two front teeth to get an even finish, and when the second tooth was prepped for the veneer it was found to be stained quite badly yellow. I’ve had these veneers for about two years and I think they look much better than no veneers at all, but wondered if there might be a better option for me.
I have previously been advised that crowns would be the next step, but I would prefer veneers if possible.
Do you think that MAC veneers would be an option, and if so could they be placed on just my two front teeth to conceal the grey/yellow discolouration and would they be able to blend in with my remaining teeth?
Your help is much appreciated.
What can you suggest to help me beat my dental phobia so I can receive treatment?
Monday, April 2nd, 2012I haven’t been to a Dentist in 10 years or more. I am very Dentist phobic, I am an ex smoker. My teeth are very stained, I have a huge build up of plaque. I’m pretty sure I have some form of gum disease. I have a couple of teeth that feel as if they are shifting/loosening bottom front. I have a couple of back teeth that are broken. I’m really not sure how many of my teeth can be saved. My Daughter is getting married in August and I really need to get my teeth sorted once and for all. I’m ashamed of the state I have let my teeth get into. Would it be possible to have them all sorted before August if I could pluck up the courage to go. Also would a cosmetic Dentist be able to do the work if most of my teeth couldn’t be saved? Thank you.
Can I have Lumineers fitted in time for my wedding?
Monday, July 11th, 2011 Hi There,
Im getting married in October abroad and am looking into lumineers as im a little worried about the shaving to my teeth to get it prepared. I was told by a dentist I visited that lumineers wouldnt work on the top as my teeth are big enough for the size of my mouth so would need to do a bit of teeth shaving. I am looking to have something done and I dont think tooth whitening would work as I have stained teeth not through smoking as I dont smoke ive just always had from childhood now into adulthood. I would like a beautiful smile for my wedding can you tell me how long it would take to have veneers/lumineers from first consultation how many weeks and how many times would I need to visit? Please could you let me know opening times or surgery I would only be able to make it on Saturdays, what is the first available appointment you have?
Antibiotics have stained my 2 year old’s teeth, is there anything I can do?
Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 I just noticed that my two year old daughter’s once beautifully white teeth are developing yellowish, mottled ‘stains’ on them. She was recently treated with antibiotics to treat a bacterial lung infection. Could the anibiotocs have caused this, or could something else be going on? Is there anything I can to to correct this or prevent it worsening?
My son also experienced this when he was about the same age and now, at the age of 5, he is quite self-consious of it. Fortunately, his baby teeth are starting to fall out now, but I want to ensure that my children’s permanent teeth are not afflicted with the same condition.
Thanks in advance for your help.
