I Am Experiencing Movement Of My Teeth After Orthodontic Treatment, Should I Contact My Orthodontist?

Tuesday, August 13th, 2013
Q.

Dr Butt, despite retaining my teeth after recent orthodontic treatment, I have noticed that my bite has shifted and is wearing down the molar enamel surfaces of the teeth as they are looking more yellow and worn. I feel my front teeth have moved inwards slightly, which has caused the bite to shift. This has given me reason to worry that the new uncomfortable bite that I am experiencing is wearing my lovely teeth down by the day, as I can feel them knocking each other. Should I consult my orthodontist, who made my retainers, about it or is this something that will rectify itself? When I wear my retainer the bite stabilises but when I take it out it shifts and is scraping the teeth. I hope that you can help me with this problem. Thanks.

Can Braces Be Placed Over An Already Existing Maryland Bridge?

Thursday, August 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, when i was 12 i had braces to open up a space. This space had to be opened up in order to compensate for my missing lateral incisors which had to be replaced with dental implants. Now i am 18 and have been told there is not enough space in the roots to place the actual dental implant and I have been advised to have even more orthodontic treatment, i am just wondering if the braces can be placed over the maryland bridge i currently have and also how long it would take to open up roughly 4mm of space for dental implants to be placed? This work is taking forever, I just want it finished!! I feel like my whole life is on hold…Anyway, thank you very much for your help in advance.

There Is A Gap In Between My Two Front Teeth Which Is Getting Bigger, Please Help!

Thursday, August 1st, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, I’ll just get straight to it! I have a gap in between my top front two teeth, i can fit my tongue in it and it seems to be getting bigger! i think!
when i shut my teeth together is seems to be as i can only describe it as tight feeling.

i have been getting very low about it, and have started to cover my month when i smile, sometimes I try not smiling at all!!!

So i would like to do something about it.

would like to no the steps on going to getting this sorted? Would I have to go down the route of orthodontics? Or is this something that fixed by means of general dentistry? I’m not sure who I should speak to about this so any help you can provide me with will be very appreciated. Thanks for your time.

My ClearPath Orthodontist Has Said I need Teeth Removing, Are There Any Alternatives?

Tuesday, July 30th, 2013
Q.

Dear doc,
I’m about to get clearpath aligners. My upper two teeth are fang like and the lower two teeth just look like huge cannines haha. The doctor says it will require extraction of the upper two and lower two teeth each because there is less space in my mouth as the size of my teeth are really huge. I really don’t find the removal of teeth to be very pleasing. Aren’t there any other alternative than to get the teeth extracted? i really don’t like the idea of having healthy teeth extracted and just wondered if there were any other braces or ANY alternatives available to me? I feel my dentist is taking advantage of me because I don’t have a lot of money. Please, please help. I really don’t want them to be taken out.

My Curved Bite Is Causing Problems, Can You Recommend A Treatment?

Thursday, July 25th, 2013
Q.

I currently have a fixed appliance on my lingual upper incisors that I have had for at least 10 years. I also have a curved root on one of my central incisors, that seems to be pulling the rest of my incisors up wards, giving my a curved bite, and therefore I am unable to bite properly. I am looking into treatment as I have previously been unsuccessful at my dentist, and am unhappy with not having the full use of my teeth. I am unsure of what treatment I would require, could you please advise me on treatment, and if possible, where would be suitable to go for treatment in Leeds.

Regards.

My Teeth Are Shifting Back To Their Old Position, What Should I Do?

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013
Q.

hi there dr butt, i am 16 years of age and i had my braces taken off about a year and half ago, the result afterwards was a huge improvement, although they have moved back to there original shape, i have always worn my retainers and still do simpily because i dont want my teeth to move anymore than they already have. i just don’t get why they have moved and i don’t know what to do in order to get them back to their old position so just wondered if you could advise me please? would the Nhs offer me another treatment? or would i have to pay? i have spoken to my parents about it and all they say is that my teeth are fine, they haven’t moved blah blah but i can see that they have and it’s worrying me cos i already had to wear braces all the way through school so i don’t want to wear them through college too! hope to hear from you soon.

I Have Been Quoted £3500 For Braces, Is This Correct?

Friday, July 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi, my teeth are really crooked and because of this my nhs dentist has advised I’d have to go private for braces. I have a number of problems with my teeth. For example, my mouth is overcrowded and I have another wisdom tooth coming through. Chewing is a nightmare, I don’t smile and my teeth cause me to have low self esteem and confidence about myself. I saw a private dentist who advised me about receiving clear step and a extraction of the wisdom tooth would cost £3500. Is there a cheaper way to achieve this please? This is unaffordable to me, can I get normal metal braces that I should have had when I was young? Can you please tell me how I can go about getting help with finance in order to receive this needed treatment?

How Much Would It Cost To Straighten Just Two Teeth?

Thursday, July 18th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I was hoping that you could give me a little bit of advice. The bottom part of my teeth are fairly straight but straight as it should be and the top part of my mouth 1 tooth is too far back and the other and too in front neither are not in line with the rest of my tooth and because of this I hate smiling and I am always conscience when I have to smile or someone seeing me smile. How much would it cost to get both bottom and top part of my teeth to be straight in line with each other and also for them to be cleaned? Thanks for your help.

I Had My Braces Removed After 2 Years And Nothing Has Changed, What Should I Do Now?

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor Hughes, I wondered if you could advise me on something? I just had braces to hide the fact that my jaw was slightly to the right and I had an over bite. I had them on for 2 years and I just had them taken off and to be totally honest I am really not happy with the end result, you can still clearly see my teeth are not in line. It looks as if only one of my teeth meet at the front which is even more irritating than before. I’d like to know if I could still get the surgery even after having braces to try and hide it? I don’t know what else to do, I feel so disappointed. I haven’t been given a retainer or anything. I just don’t understand. Thank you for any help in advance, any other suggestions are welcome.

I’m A Single Mum And Looking Into Receiving Braces, How Much Am I Likely To Pay For Them?

Monday, July 1st, 2013
Q.

Hello, I was just wondering if you could please advise me with something? I was supposed to have braces as a teen but I opted not to as I didn’t want to get picked on for them. I wish I had toughed it out as now I’m too embarrassed to smile. All my canine teeth are way out of line, they look like a second row of teeth. My front teeth are crooked. I long for a straight smile so I can smile in photos with my children rather than hiding from the camera. Please can you tell me what the cheapest and quickest way of achieving this would be. I’m a single mum now so funds are scarce. Any advice would be great, such as general costs of braces and how long it will take for my teeth to become straight again etc. Thank you.
