My daughter, a type 1 diabetic, has been told at hospital she needs a periodontist to help cure her receding gums. She cannot afford private dental treatment as she is unemployed. She smokes too. Are there any periodontal practitioners that practice on the NHS? If not, where do we go from here? She is 30 and afraid of losing her teeth. Her gums have receded a lot, she is careful and cleans them with special brushes. If no NHS treatment is available, what else can she do? Anything she can buy to help at the chemist?

Is Periodontal Treatment Available on the NHS?
Tuesday, April 21st, 2015Are Clear Braces Free on the NHS?
Wednesday, April 15th, 2015Hello, I am set to get braces fitted and ordered. This is my first time to an orthodontist and I really would like clear braces. Is there any type I could get free? I’m with the NHS and under 15, my teeth are a bit wonky and there is a small gap between my two front teeth.I’m not with a private dentist or anything like that. If I can’t get clear ones, is there any other type than the train track ones that are also free? Cheers.
Can I Get Dental Implants on the NHS?
Tuesday, January 13th, 2015Hi Dr Hughes. I have recently been in a car accident, and have lost two and a half teeth and chipped a fourth tooth, all at the front of my mouth. My teeth are usually in good condition but I don’t currently have a dentist. I am looking for an NHS dentist in Manchester to give me dental implants. Is this something you could help me with? If you could get back to me with some information this would great, thank you.
My Front Teeth Have Developed Very Large Gaps In Between Them. Could I Have This Problem Resolved Via The NHS?
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2014 Hello Marcus, I would like some advice please.
My 4 top front teeth have developed very large horrible gaps in between them.
They look very horrible and noticeable. They are getting me down and people are staring at them and making horrible remarks about them.
I no longer smile or laugh as my teeth would be on show.
Can I have this problem resolved via the NHS as I am on certain benefits that exempt me from usual dentist treatment.
Many thanks.
I Have Been Told That I Would Need My Jaw Aligned Before Having Fixed Braces? Does This Sound Correct?
Monday, October 13th, 2014Hi Dr Gambroudes. I’m 22 years old and an nhs patient. I recently went to see a dentist and he said I needed a fixed brace and 2 teeth out to make room for my 4 teeth at the front which are overcrowded. Years ago, I was told that I couldn’t have braces because my jaw isn’t correct and unless I had my jaw cracked into place. I have chosen not to have my jaw cracked and recently this dentist said that it is possible to have fixed braces. This is confusing. I was also wondering whether I have to pay the nhs for braces or not? Thanks.
I Have One Chipped Front Tooth And The Other Is Large And Wonky. What’s The Best Option For This?
Thursday, October 9th, 2014Hi, Dr Gambroudes. I have two big front teeth with a large gap. One of these is chipped and the other is moving outwards making the gap larger and wonky. Please can you suggest what I can do? What’s the best option for this? What cost is involved? And could I have treatment on the NHS as I’m not working at the moment?
It’s really making me depressed and I’m not leaving my house and my job ended because my confidence is zero. I am now suffering from aggraphobia because I don’t want to leave the house and meet people.
Please help. Thank you.
As An NHS Patient I Had Two Dental Crowns And One Was Badly Matched. Is It Possible To Change This Crown?
Tuesday, September 30th, 2014Hi. I am a NHS patient, recently I had two crowns replaced within a year, the first was a great colour match, the second which is next to the first is awful, yellow and darker. They were both done by the same dentist. I said when having the second crown I would like to have the same colour, then the dentist and nurse started looking at different colours and decided to make the change of colour assuring me I would hardly notice the difference, I just agreed, as I was happy with the first crown. When I went for the fitting it was put in, very rushed, I just put it down to being a busy morning, I had to ask for a mirror, which was a waste of time without my glasses. When I got home I was so disappointed that it’s not matching, it’s yellow. It looks so false next to the first crown. I have my 6 month appointment soon. Is it possible to change the crown, as it was free on the NHS?
Can I Get Braces on the NHS?
Friday, September 19th, 2014I’m 21 years old and I’m unemployed. Am I allowed braces on the NHS?
The reason I ask is, from the age of 14 I have been bullied regarding my teeth. I’ve never had confidence because of this, I have received counselling and nothing has helped!
When I was 16 I asked my dentist for braces and he said I don’t need them and if I want them then I have to pay £2000, so after that I thought I’m never going to get straight teeth.
Today I decided to look up about prices and it stated that if I was under 18 I would have been able to get them on NHS!
I have had a very hard life regarding this.
How do I go about applying for NHS braces? Regards.
