I Had An Eating Disorder At A Young Age. Is There A Type Of Paste You Use To Fill The Gaps In Smiles?

Friday, April 11th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I hope you can help me with my enquiry. At a young age I had a eating disorder, I would throw up everything I would eat for over Four years, with the help and love of my parents and friends I over came this, but now I notice that with so much throwing up that I was doing, I made a gap between my two front teeth, it isn’t big but I don’t like it how much would it be? And is there such type of paste to cover it? Or to fill in all the spaces I have? Thank you for taking the time to listen and I look forward to your reply.

I’m Filming A TV Show. If I Have The Top Brace Taken Off, Is That Going To Cause Me Any Problems?

Monday, April 7th, 2014
Q.

Hi there,

I’ve had braces since August and I am filming a TV show in America which requires me to have the top brace taken off as it’s very visible with my smile. At the moment I only have it on to close the gaps between my molars where one tooth on each side was removed to create space. The gap is just large enough for me to fit the end of my tongue in. If I have the top brace taken off is that going to cause any problems? I personally don’t care about the gaps as they’re totally invisible. My front teeth are now all straight but it’s just the small gaps they’re trying to close. What do you think?

Thank you.

I Don’t Want The Gap Left By An Impacted Tooth Any More. What Are My Options?

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I would like some information and advice to help me out. I have a tooth, which, when I was younger that grew across the roof of my mouth. This was removed at a young age, when I was thirteen years old. Since then, the tooth next to my front two has spread into the gap. I would like to get this changed so it looks like 2 teeth. What are my options? I don’t want to have a gap any more. The tooth removed was the 2nd one after my front two and the one that’s next to my front 2 (top) has now in the middle of the gap showing a gap either side. Thank you in advance for your help, I look forward to hearing from you.

Will The NHS Pay For My Dental Implants?

Monday, March 31st, 2014
Q.

Hello there, wondering if you can help me out a little with a difficult problem. I have just had 2 top right back teeth out and 2 bottom right teeth took out and I was told buy my dentist that I cannot wear dentures as I suffer from very bad epilepsy. I have suffered from this all of my life and have been told that the denture route is unsafe in case I have a seizure and swallow or choke on them. Every time I have a seizure I am badly damaging my tongue too, ripping it really badly through the gaps which are now present in my mouth from the missing teeth. The only way I can think of resolving this situation is to get implants. Will the NHS pay for me to have implants in this case do you think?

I’m Currently Having Braces But I Fear My Gaps Won’t Be Closed In Time For My Wedding. Could Cosmetic Bonding Work For Me?

Thursday, March 20th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Patel,

I have had gaps in between my teeth since childhood but I noticed they have been widening. I am on an internship in Tunisia where I started my braces treatment, it’s been 10 months and I am due to leave in 6 weeks. So far, the 3 mm gap in between my front teeth has closed and so have the little ones on the bottom. However, I now have ‘2 mm’ gaps on each side of my 4 upper and bottom teeth (4 gaps in total). Whilst I would like to be patient with the treatment, in addition to relocating, I will be getting married in February 2014 and would really like to have the gaps closed before then. Would you recommend cosmetic bonding?

My other fear is that I have a long tongue which have been pushing the teeth out; I had a tongue thrust apparatus on for 3 months which has assisted in training the tongue to rest up in my mouth, however I am aware that if we push the teeth too far in, the tongue will still push them back out later on.

Your advice is much appreciated.

I Have A Gap Between My Lateral Incisors And My Cuspids, The Gap Is Down To The Shape Of My Canines. Would Filing Them Work?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, I like your help with a problem. I have a gap between my lateral incisors and my cuspids. The gap is down to the shape of my canines, which makes me have this space where my bottom cuspids should be. I’m currently undergoing orthodontic treatment and am wondering if I could somehow have those spaces removed, I really dislike them! Will teeth filing do anything? Should I wait until the orthodontic treatment is finished before fixing this problem? I could send you some pictures of what I’m talking about so you guys could help me in greater detail. That would be brilliant. Thank you for your reply beforehand!

Am I Too Old For Implants?

Monday, March 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello there, I wondered if you could help me with my problem. I am a sixty-one year old woman, and have had two large gaps on either side of my lower jaw since I was a child. I have experimented with dentures in the past, but I found them to be an inconvenience to me. Would you say I was too old for dental implants, and are my gums too thin to have implants fitted? A big problem I have is that I find that I struggle when it comes to chewing food, and have always wanted to have my teeth sorted out professionally. I do not have many teeth, and I would really like to have a full set of working ones! Thank you.

What Options Are Available To Fill The Gaps In My Teeth And Will It Require Some Kind Of Surgery?

Monday, March 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I have gaps between my front teeth and I want to know how long it will take to fill them? I’d also like to know how much it will cost me and if there any surgery is required or not? I wouldn’t like to have surgery that’s why I’m asking. I would also like to know if any surgery needed would be painful or not as I’m quite nervous. I hope you can help me out with this problem. Thank you for your time.

What Are My Options When It Comes To Closing The Gaps In My Teeth?

Thursday, February 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I just wanted to ask a question regarding the gaps between my teeth. My 4 front teeth on the top of my mouth seem way too small for my jaw and therefore there are gaps in between each tooth, which are very dominant. My 4 front teeth on my bottom row also seem to have minor gaps in between them. They’ve been like this ever since I was young, I am now 20 years old. I was just wondering what my options are when it comes to getting these gaps closed?

Thank you.

My Protruding Teeth Have Always Been Something That Have Caused Me To Have A Lack Of Confidence. How Would I Fix This?

Tuesday, February 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. My two upper canine teeth protrude quite a lot and have done since I was very young. I was wondering if this can be corrected and if so, how? There are large gaps behind the teeth but overcrowding means the gap isn’t big enough and as a result they stick out in front of my other teeth. Would they be removed or would a brace be the best option? I’m 35 years old and this is has always been something that caused me to have a lack of confidence. Thank you, I look forward to your reply.
