My dentist has put crowns on my fillings, why is this?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hello,

I had a very large deep filling 6 months ago.

My dentist was not sure if it would work as it was so deep and a large amount of tooth missing. It did work and now 6 months on I went for a check up and he has booked me in for a crown fitting.

The dentist provied no explanation for the crown and I was left confused. I am not altogether happy with my dentist, I am never provided with full explanations and all my appointments seems rushed.

I got a second opinion from a dentist friend (they did not actually see me, but we talked over the phone) my friend said a crown is not needed as the filling/tooth is not causing bother to me. I also asked my hygenist who said the crown may not me neccessary.

I am usure what to do? Stay as I am with the filling and see how I go or have a crown fitted?

Get another opinion from a different dentist?

Thanks

Will I be eligible for implants on the NHS?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hello Mr Tennet

I would like 1 or 2 implants for the right side bottom very rear. I have never had the full compliment of teeth perhaps 2 short of any diagram I have seen.
I had the bottom very rear tooth extracted last week, there was a cap and the original base had split, the tooth infront has been missing for about 58 years, when I was a child I had mumps and toothache the dentist at the time with a doctor present took out a newly grown tooth.
From yourself I really would like an idea of the cost of an implant and if there is any National financial help ie disabled OAP that can be put toward the costs. I do attend a National Health dentist but the cost quoted is far beyond any expectation.

My dentis gave me a gold crown instead of a porcelain one, what can I do?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

I had a crown fitted recently and it was not what I have expected. Before the procedure I had two dental appointments during which I have discussed with my dentist about the type and colour of the crown. I clearly asked for a porcelain crown and picked out a shade from the catalogue. After a crown has been fitted I saw that a gold crown was in place, not the porcelain I had picked out. The dentist does not take any responsibility for the mistake and just said that nothing can be done now.
Is there anything that could be done to correct the problem as I’m not happy with the way the gold crown shows when I smile?

I need my decayed front and wisdom teeth replaced with implants, what is the cost?

Monday, May 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hi Rob,

Last year i had an accident and lost one of my front teeth completely and had the other snapped in half.
I have begun treatment and have since had root canal treatment in the snapped tooth, which has since grayed.

I have been wearing a denture for the last 12 months, but have always had the intention of implants.
I also have very decayed wisdom teeth and am in no doubt that they need pulling.

Firstly I would like to know if my wisdom teeth would hinder any treatments in the front of my mouth?

Secondly would a crown would be suitable for my snapped tooth with it being grey and having undergone root canal? (this would be to go along side an implant for the missing tooth)

And also, I am currently a NHS patient. Other than the obvious cost of the implant, can any of the cosmetic treatment i may be offered be covered by the NHS?

Thank you

The veneers and crowns my dentist has given me are the wrong colour. What can be done?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I am in the middle of some cosmetic work and worried about final result. I have had an implant to lateral incisor to replace old Maryland bridge,( I never had an adult tooth here) and am having 3 veneersto the other incisors. I wasn’t happy at the fitting – the implant crown was fixed on and the veners temporarily set on – to me the colour of the veneers was obviously wrong – everything was made D2 – the colour match of the crown is perfect except that in some lights a grey shadow from the implant post shows through. And the veneers looked too yellow. the dentist and technician insisted that they were all a perfect match. I agee that the crown was a perfect match – except for the problem of the grey shadow – but the veneers were not! The dentist was quite annoyed and said this was what I had chosen. They are now going to remake everything in B2 . I am so worried about the final result – if the veneers had been the same colour as the crown I would have been happy. An additional problem is that the gum at the implant site is very high so when I smile broadly I have one obviously long tooth – my bridge had a pink margin at the top to minimize this. I am so worried abouth the next visit.

I am not happy with the colour of my veneers, is there anything I can do?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hello, I had eight porcelain veneers fiited five years ago, although I am very happy with the result of a lovely smile, I now wish that I had had the veneers made whiter than they are at present. Please could you tell me if it possible to have my present veneers cosmetically whitened without having to have new veneers? Also how long should I expect the veneers to last before the set will have to be replaced. My worry is also the longer that they are fitted, what is the possibility that my gums will change and that the veneers will , worst case sceniario fall off, arrgh!? Please could you help. Kind Reagrds,

Not happy with my new implanted dentures. What should I do?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr Tennet

I wonder if you can help me.I recently completed an upper dental implant procedure. The four implants have been very successful. However the over denture constructed for me has left me feeling depressed.I had it fitted last Monday and friends have been asking me what’s wrong with my face. There are a number of issues with the over denture. The procedure carried out was implants and bar metal work.. which of course secures the denture .To be honest it looks worse than the ordinary denture it has replaced. The front teeth are too prominent and ‘puff” the area above my top lip up…There is a very obvious gap on the curve of the denture where it meets my palate…this is causing real problems with my speech. The actual teeth are ridiculously even despite asking that this not be done. They look like a cheap denture not £8000 worth of re-constructive dentistry. I am also suffering two sore spots…I know its early days but I simply feel that the over denture is a poor fit and design. To be honest I would feel happier with my old denture back. I am not a complainer by nature but I am so unhappy with the final result.
It is only having ‘lived’ with the over denture for a week or so that I am now acutely aware of the problems. I would be so grateful for some advice…I have not contacted the dentist yet. Do you think things can be sorted out.I am a teacher and my voice is my trade…can you offer me some advice please…what should I do ?

My new bridge doesnt match my other teeth again. What is your advice?

Monday, May 9th, 2011
Q.

Hi. I had an old NHS 3unit bridge that was done very poorly and didn’t match in proportion with my other teeth. I recently had this unit replaced by a private cosmetic dentist and she promised that she would have the teeth match and be in proportion. I went to have to bridge fitted and the bridge looks like the one before, however as I was completely numb I couldn’t talk, and she was running late and rushing, she fitted it and I promptly left. I rang the next day to see if something could be done and I think she may ‘shave’ one of the teeth down. Do you know were I may stand in getting the bridge redone as i’m not happy with it and I feel she hasn’t kept her promise? I paid £2000 and could never afford this again I saved for a very long time just to have it fitted again. Thankyou.
