Did treatment on son’s teeth make white spots even worse?

Friday, April 27th, 2012
Q.

My 20 year old son has white spots on both permanent front teeth since a child. I thought it came because of a preventative antibiotic he was given for 15 months as a two year old for ear infections. The dentist just did microabrasion on them one month ago. It faded a little but the white spots are still there. He ask the dentist yesterday if he could use the white crest strips and he said that would be fine. He started last evening and today the white spots are so white. Because of the microabrasion did this make the white spots worse because the enamel isn’t there as much and is more open and the whitening from the strips filled in. Thanks, mother is concerned.

My 16 year old daughter has white marks on her teeth, what treatment can she have to remove them?

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012
Q.

My daughter just turned 16 and has what appears to be “white stains on her teeth. I thought it was from her braces but the orthodontist said it was probably from the iron she had to take when she was an infant.
She was anemic when she was a baby; at 2 months of age we put the iron drops down the side of her check once a day for 6 months. We did this until she stopped breastfeeding and got the iron from her formula.
Either way, now that she has straight teeth, she wishes they were a nicer color.

What are her options?

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012
Q.

I was born with yellow teeth, and uneven , misshaped, too, no amount of cleaning.with whitening products have ever done any good….I have never been able to smile , or enjoy having my photo taken. How can someone like me who does not have . much money ever be able to have cosmetics dentistry done ?? …I have been told by my dentist I only need six veneers top . and a little work on the bottom four. but I would never be able to save for one tooth to be done as it came to far more then I would ever have .

What is the best treatment choice for discoloured teeth, veneers or whitening?

Tuesday, October 4th, 2011
Q.

Hello, I am a 21 year old student. I have had discoloured teeth for as long as I can remember. Because of this as a child I neglected my teeth and they just got worse. As I got older I started looking after them more and but I am still ashamed of how bad they are. To help me with confidence issues I need something done to improve my smile. I am thinking about getting veneers, or whitened but not sure whether whitening would do the trick as I let them get so bad. I don’t know where to start. How do I go about assessing my options?

How good are over the counter whitening treatments in comparison to whitening from a dentist?

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi Rob,
I would like just a little advice on the best route for 2 issues. I drink quite a lot of coffee and my teeth are an ‘0ff-white- colour. I would really like a gleaming white smile now and wondered what the best way would be to achieve it? About a year or so ago I purchased Dr George’s Dental White, but have only used on a few occasions as im very sceptical of any damage? Is this a good product? I have also just recently purchased the Transformulas professional whitening kit, and after a few appliances it does ‘appear’ to have made a difference. Is professional surgery really the only way to achieve my goal, or are these products worthwhile?
I also have a very slight gap between my top front two teeth and would like this closed, any advice also would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much for your time

My teeth are not straight or white and I don’t want braces, what can I do?

Thursday, September 15th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr. Rob Tennet, i have 2 problems with my teeth 🙂

Number 1: they are yellow… i had tried whitening tooth paste for a long time(over 1 year) and not much changed.

Number 2:they are… not straight :(.

I would like to know what costs are involved in straightening and whitening. I also want to mention that i would not like braces…

I would like to have them at least straight in maximum 3 months, if that is possible.
Forgot to mention that I am 18 years old.

What’s the best option for tooth whitening, who do I go to and how do I know I should?

Thursday, September 15th, 2011
Q.

Dear Mark,

I am looking into getting my teeth whitened and wondered what you would recommend as the best option in your opinion – best results and least painful?

I am 30 years old and my teeth are a bit stained, so would like them nice and white again.

Also when I am looking into a dentist, should they be a cosmetic dentist to do this type of treatment? And how do I check if they are a cosmetic dentist as opposed to a normal dentist?

Thank you very much,

After a tooth whitening session my teeth are now patchy, is this normal?

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011
Q.

Hi, have just completed 2 weeks teeth whitening with my dentist using Polanight with overnight trays and 2 sessions in the dentist. However, some of my teeth are not uniformally white – that is some parts of the tooth are whiter than others. I understand that the part of the tooth nearest the gum line may not whiten as much, but some of my teeth have whiter sections than others. When I raised this with my dentist he said its due to the make-up of the tooth and nothing to worry about and nothing else can be done? Would you agree. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Regards

My wife & myself are considering having our teeth whitened by laser at a local beauty salon, should I steer clear?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr.Butt.My wife & myself are considering having our teeth whitened by laser at a local beauty salon which offers a range of differnt products i.e Hairdressing, nail treatments, fake tans, massage treatments etc.My wife has informed me recently that the salon provides the above mentioned teeth whitening service. This has been advertised at a 99 pounds special offer but I have resavations about this type of service not being in a actual established Dental Clinic. Someone apparently visits the salon to provide this service. What would be your advice on this matter ? Thank You.
