I’ve had a quote for an implant, will it be a bit like a denture?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

I have no back teeth aton my lower gum.

I could have a denture plastic or metal do not fance any of these but I am putting a lot of pressure on my front teeth.
I have been quoted about 2,000 pound for an implant does this mean there will be teeth on this like a denture.

Do you happen to know if dental students (or NHS) require anyone to practice fitting a full top jawbone of implants?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

Do you happen to know if dental students (or NHS) require anyone to practice fitting a full top jawbone of implants? I was a Police officer who lost most of my top jawbone teeth trying to break up a large fight (resulting from an assault) when a group turned on my colleague and me. I was fitted with a bridge, as I was unable to cope with a plate (I could not stop gagging, was unable to speak properly, and lost a serious amount of weight during that time). Many years later, I broke my back (representing my country in the high jump) and required to lay flat for over ten years (obviously in that time unable to have dental treatment).
Nowadays, I am at least on crutches (having had a spinal stimulator fitted, albeit a faulty one)but my back used to ‘go’ quite frequently and having fallen quite a few times my bridge got broken, not to mention all the cuts and bruises. I am utterly terrified of having a full denture and simply cannot afford to have any dental treatment (probably other than a plate) as I am on disability allowance; therefore, I have been attempting ‘home’ dentistry. One of the teeth that held one side of the bridge, I drilled into and fitted with a post (part of a metal coat hanger) whilst the other tooth I super glued but unfortunately I am required to redo them maybe once/twice a week. I know this is not good, not to mention the fumes when I have to use the glue (I can feel it filling my lungs).
All I want is to be able to eat reasonably and have a nice smile again. I am just so paranoid of people looking at my teeth I do not leave the house at all in case I have to speak or feel the need to smile (serious self-esteem issues).
Do you happen to know of anyone who would/could help me in any way?
I would be eternally grateful!
Best regards,

Can you tell me how to be confident in my dentists ability to fit an implant?

Friday, March 11th, 2011
Q.

I have been missing my top right front tooth for around five years now and wearing a denture in its place. My dentists have recommended implants in the past but the cost has been too high. When I went for my check up this time round my dentist told me that she is currently training in doing single tooth implants with the Royal College of Surgeons, is looking for patients and that my gap is just about perfect.

My dentist has offered to reduce the price for my implant and crown to £1800 (she quoted a normal price of £2300) and said to think about it. Today she has said that it should be around £1500. I had x-rays and impressions taken today so they can decide if there is enough bone remaining to go ahead.

I have two questions now. From reading this site it seems that £1500 might be quite high for a reduced price. My dentist advertises as a cosmetic dentist, and I expect that the quality of the crown etc will be good, but I have no frame of reference to decide if this is a good price for the procedure. I was also worried that they could not give me a firm price, saying that depending on how the procedure goes, more treatment may be required, which would increase the price.

I am concerned that if they decide there is enough bone to proceed I might still be a marginal case and that this might reduce the potential lifetime of the implant. Is this possibly the case?

Sorry for such a long-winded question, and thanks for any advice you can give.

Friday, March 11th, 2011
Q.

Hi,
I would be grateful for your advice.
I have worn an upper partial denture for over 30 years, l am now 55, l have had years of problems with various types of denture and lots of bad experiences over the years, l have seen details of 4 on 1 and mini denture implants on the website, they sound like an answer to a dream and l wonder if you could give me a rough idea of the cost, the denture l have now has the 4 main front teeth, and 4 back teeth 2 on either side, sad to say l do not have much money to spend , if you give me the cheapest way possible l would be most grateful
