Can gum recession like mine lead to tooth loss?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello Doctor Bohara, i am extremely worried about my front tooth and wondered if you could help me? There is gum recession due hard brushing I believe. I was also told that my perio marking was 0-1 was a 2, and the dentist is pleased. However, i am scared that i will lose my central tooth due to the recession. If this happens how much will it cost to have a dental implant and can I have it done straight away? And do people generally loose teeth with gum recession like mine? Hope you can put my mind at rest. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Im 58 yrs old, Im currently being denied by cigna from getting a total of 9 implants over the pst 6 yrs Ive had fillings, and crowns only to have issues with them. My teeth are sensitive to hot and cold ,and i cant eat any thing like a hard potatoe chip due to hurting my gums here no teeth exist. Only to be denied saying they will approve dentals.I have great coverage with cigna. ,all at the same time my co-workers have getten the same procedure done and to a greater degree. Some person in a insurance company based upon some xray makes an opinion to determine approve or deny. They have no ideal what i go through not being able to eat select foods sentivity. what do you recommend and where can i go to persue the matter .Even my dentist appealed to the insurance company stating that he highly recommend the implants.is there an agency to help my fight the insurance??

Is there any way I can get braces and dental implants on the NHS?

Monday, December 3rd, 2012
Q.

I have TMJ and this is caused by a crossbite. I have been to a dentist in America but I am currently moving back to the UK and I am a citizen. Would I be able to get orthodontic braces on the NHS to correct the crossbite? Also I have my back two or three molars missing and it causes me to have to chew on the side where the TMJ is the worst. I do have TMJ on both sides. It has gotten to the point my jaw locks from time to time. I was also told it will cause my bottom teeth to start to shift upward at some point. I will need a bone graft due to lack of bone. Could I get that done on the NHS as well? The dental implants are not for cosmetic purposes but is causing me pain on the other side from the constent chewing on that side.

Q.

I don’t get income support, but I do get disability payments. I can’t wear my top teeth anymore as they don’t fit and I’m fed up with them falling out, especially when I’m talking. I can’t eat while wearing them, so I don’t bother to pu.t them in anymore. I would like to have dental implants, bit I’m not sure if I have enough bone. Also I don’t want them to cost me the earth. as I am on low income. can u please give me some advice. I really would like to be able to smile again, but at the moment, I can’t

I have lost several teeth and would like to get dental implants on the NHS. Any advice?

Monday, November 26th, 2012
Q.

I am a 44 yr old woman; as a result of a brain aneurysm, I had a stroke, which further resulted in a seizure and I lost my front teeth when I hit the ground face first and fractured the bone that holds yr front teeth. I am extremely self-conscious of having a partial denture and have had many problems with it. I understand under some circumstances, its possible to qualify for dental implants on the NHS. I have lost 10 teeth from my upper jaw so have no chance of ever being able to afford the costs privately. It is really affecting my confidence and getting me down. Any advice?

I have large gaps in between my front teeth due to thumb sucking during childhood, what treatments are available for me?

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012
Q.

I have large gaps between front and side top teeth from thumbsucking during childhood to mid teens. The front teeth also protrude and the bottom of the teeth can be seen when my mouth is closed. I also have an overbite.I dont smile properly for pictures and my confidence is very low, can you suggest any treatment that could help. My sister also had similar problem but also had an infection above her front teeth which was separating her teeth even more, she had her problem teeth removed and had a temporary plate fitted and then screw in implants. Im in my late thirties and dont think I could handle wearing a temporary denture plate. Please help!

Is there any way to get a replacement tooth before I have brace treatment?

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012
Q.

I’m in the process of having some bracers fitted to straighten my teeth, today i was given the normal check over and x-ray only to find that that I have still got 1 baby tooth on the upper right side next to my front 2 teeth. It doesn’t look like there is an adult tooth underneath and my dentist thinks with the braces this baby tooth will fall out as it’s already a little loose.

At 31 years old I didn’t think this would happen, is there any way to get a replacement tooth in the same spot to make my smile look even and would it involve a lot of work? I know it’s hard to say without looking at the x-ray and my teeth but is there ways of correcting this? My own dentist has stopped going forward to redo my smile plan, i’m worried it’s going to cost more money which i can’t afford (already at 4k)

Any advise on this matter is most welcome.

Many Thanks

Iain
