I Recently Got New Crowns, But Now I Have A Lisp And They Feel Too Big For My Mouth. What Should I Do About This?

Tuesday, February 25th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I went to my dentist so I could get a great smile but now I don’t even smile now and I hate talking as I have a lisp. The dentist put your new crowns along the top but one of the crowns is blue/grey in colour and I feel my teeth are too big and bulky for me. I hate speaking as have a lisp, so now not only do I not have the perfect smile but I can’t talk properly now either. I went back to my dentist and he said – Oh, I think they are fine and that I was paranoid when referring to my lisp. I am very upset about this and I would like to know what can be done. Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer me.

I Had A Chip On My Incisor And Each Repair Seems To Get Chipped Too. I Don’t Have Bruxism. Would A Crown Work For Me?

Friday, February 21st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I’m a 35 year old male. I had a chip on my maxillary central incisor. It was first repaired by composite bonding. This only lasted a couple of days before it chipped as well. A week ago a veneer was on the NHS (not sure whether its a ceramic or porcelain veneer). I woke up this morning and it had chipped as well in the same location as my own incisor chipped initially.

My teeth are not completely aligned. When I close my mouth my upper teeth ends up slightly in front of my lower teeth. My central and lateral mandibular incisors are worn down. I don’t exhibit bruxism during the day, and don’t know if I have nocturnal bruxism.

I believe that just replacing the veneer with a new one will likely result in the new veneer breaking as well. Would a crown not be better suited?

I Think I Lost A Cap When Eating. Could You Tell Me How Much It Costs To Replace?

Thursday, February 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I really hope you can help me. My cap came off from my front left tooth recently and I think I must of swallowed it after eating because I felt this funny gap when I was through eating. I have had a cap on my front left tooth since the age of 12, and I am 58 years old now and it has come off only twice and replaced. There is like a peg left in, I guess that’s what my dentist did before he gave me a cap. I am so depressed, I feel so ugly, I can’t even look in the mirror or go outside to talk to anyone until I get this fixed. I don’t have insurance but I am willing to pay cash, how much do you think this will cost? Please help me and thank you for your time.

Would I Replace My Caps With A Bridge Attached Or Is There Another Treatment You Would Suggest?

Tuesday, February 18th, 2014
Q.

Hi, my two front teeth are capped and discoloured and the tooth to the direct left is also a cap but will be removed as it fractured, meaning I will need a denture there. My dentist has suggested replacing the caps and having a bridge fixed to my teeth for the tooth I will lose, which will improve appearance. The cost is £1800. My question is, would that be the best treatment and would it be better to get the tooth on the right of front teeth done also as it’s discoloured too, if so what would you see as the best option for price? Thank you.

I Recently Had A Fall And Lost Three Crowns. I’m Afraid That If I Visit The Dentist That My Teeth Will Be Removed. What Should I Go?

Tuesday, February 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I fell down some steps recently and three of my crowns at the front have fallen out. They were on pins, (two of them have the pins on but one of them has no pin on and no tooth it’s just flat to the gum-line). What will the dentist need to do? I am terrified of the dentist and I am really stressed out. My biggest fear is that I will have to have my teeth removed as they are not the best I have quite a bit of decay. I’m really unsure about what I should do and I hope your advice can help me. Thanks.

Can Stem Cell Technology Be Used To Create New Teeth And Is This Treatment Now Available?

Monday, February 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi Doctor, my canine tooth cracked while I was eating crisps after a temporary filling was done.
It was a small line at the side of the tooth and my dentist told me that I would need a crown and there is nothing that they could do. I have a crown now and it is not as long as my natural canine tooth, I was wondering if I could get a matching (longer) crown to replace it and if it would be suitable for canine teeth. Also I have the feeling that if I had said this and went to another dentist that my natural tooth and shape could have been saved. One more quick question as I am aware of stem cell technology, and wonder if stem cells can be taken from old dried up baby teeth? Or if you know the people growing new teeth and if they need volunteers, I’d like to try it.

After Having A Root Canal And A Crown Fitted Shortly Afterwards, I’m Experiencing Discomfort. Has It Failed?

Monday, February 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I have a problem that I would like to discuss with you. I have just had a root canal done and after almost 2 weeks everything had settled with the temporary dressing, no pain. Then I went back a week later for a crown to be fitted and now I’m experiencing a mild pain and the crown is quite sensitive to touch when pushing on the side. It’s not particularly pain just a persistent discomfort, please help. Should I tell my dentist? Does it sound like it failed? I’m terrified, I also has the nerve removed on this same tooth. I’ve found the whole procedure has made me very depressed. Thank you.

My Gums Are Receding And I Have Tooth Ache All The Time. How Could I Afford To Have Treatment?

Monday, February 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I have really bad teeth, they are very yellow and my gums are receding terribly. I also suffer with tooth ache all the time and my face swells too. I am very depressed due to my appearance and need something done quickly. I also have 4 missing near the front which looks absolutely terrible. I have not got a lot of money but some family members are willing to help me out if I find someone who can do help with the mess my mouth is in. Can you tell me which procedure I need for a smile to be proud of. Thank you, I hope you can help.

A Sweet Tooth And Need My Back Teeth Fixing So My Teeth Don’t Bleed When I Brush. How Much Would Treatment Cost?

Tuesday, January 28th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, I am 20 years out and I have a very sweet tooth. My smile is my best asset, however what it hides is terrible. I’ve got many fillings and gold crowns and I want them fixed permanently, so my teeth don’t bleed when I brush. Half of one tooth is absent, but my smile, well my front teeth are amazing. The 4 top right teeth at the back need fixing. The 2 middle back teeth at the top left need fixing. 4 on the bottom two either side need fixing also. I’m really worried, how much will it cost? I hope you can help me with this. Thank you.
