I started my tooth whitening programme last Tuesday

Monday, November 10th, 2008
Q.
I started my tooth whitening programme last Tuesday (from my dentist)and my teeth are ultra sensitive now which they were not before so I would like to know if this will fade once treatment ends in 8 days? Plus the gel has leaked over the top of the plate and I could feel it going down my throat all night – will it cause me any harm given I apparently have Silent Reflux according to my Dr? I can’t ask my dentist cos they are shut till Monday and I am suffering now! I also have a sore throat now. Any advice gratefully received!Thank you!

I really want to straighten a gap in my teeth

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
Q.
I really want to straighten a gap in my teeth which has bothered me for years, I heard about invisalign from my dentist but he quoted me a price in the region of 4000 pounds which is not something I can afford. A clinic running a special offer have quoted less than half that but want me to pay up front. Is this a bit dodgey? Would I be better to save and go with someone who is charging the normal price rather than gamble on the cheaper option? This is still a massive amount of money for me.

my mother 72 has lost 2 teeth which are within the visible smile

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008
Q.
My mother is 72. She takes approx 2mg of Warfarin daily as she has a mechanical aortic valve. Her INR is extremelly erratic and she has to have blood tests twice weekly as INR can vary from 2 to 4 within a week. She has lost 2 teeth which are within the visible smile (and 2 others to the side of her mouth). She has just had a plastic bridge constructed and is totally dissatisfied with it. It is enormous and is shaped to the roof of her mouth (has 4 attached dentures). She cannot eat or sleep with it and feels sick as she has a constant gagging feeling. She only really needs the 2 teeth replaced. Is there another option? A metal bridge? Teeth rooted into the gum mechanically? Dental implants? Clearly she is not a straight forward case due to the INR fluctuation but any advice or alternative to the current situation would be greatly appreciated. I live in London and she can stay with me for any procedures. Many thanks

am i suitable for 6 month smiles braces

Monday, November 3rd, 2008
Q.
Dear Dr Bohara I came to the website initially as I am interested in the ‘6 month smiles braces’ but due to the complex nature of my problem am not sure they are suitable. I was interested to see that you also had experience working with Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. I am 24 and have an underbite for which an osteotomy has been advised. I also require orthodontic treatment first as my upper jaw is has lost the centre line and my teeth have shifted to one side. This is due to the local hospital orthodontist removing one of my upper canines when I was a child in order to apparently reduce the crowding, but which has now apparently caused further complications. My problem is that I am acutely conscious of my appearance, although I have been repeatedly told by the NHS orthodontist that I am being ridiculous. However hard I have tried to rationalise it I cannot change my feelings. I have always been called names such as ‘Chinny’ and have very little self confidence. I dread the thought of wearing the ‘train track’ braces he has told me I must have as I know that I will have unpleasant comments made from collagues and I cannot simply shrug it off. It may sound stupid but the thought of having to wear such braces for an extended period is something I really don’t feel I can do. However, the situation with my jaw and teeth is worsening all the time and affects my eating as I have an open bite and also, I feel, it affects my speech. I wondered whether lingual braces or the 6 months smile braces would be suitable to have in conjunction with the surgery I probably need. Could you please advise me? Many thanks

I’m considering getting Inman Aligners for two overlapping

Monday, November 3rd, 2008
Q.
Hi, I’m considering getting Inman Aligners for two overlapping front teeth and four crooked front teeth at the bottom, I was just enquiring if this would be the cost of two individual treatments or if one treatment cost would cover all works.

the bone underneath my veneer is to small

Q.
My dentist told me the bone underneath my veneer is to small and there is no other way to correct this but to pull the tooth. Is there any other way to keep my veneer

I am now prolonging the mild discomfort, and lack of confidence

Friday, October 31st, 2008
Q.
Hi, I’m 21 years old and, although I do my best to maintain my teeth, I feel I am now prolonging the mild discomfort, and lack of confidence they create, plus I am guessing that eating on one side of my mouth to avoid pain cannot be healthy long term. I have many fillings in many teeth and should have cared for my teeth much more during childhood and my teenage years. I am at the stage now where the constant trips to my dentist are costing me hundreds of pounds a year due to fillings falling out etc, and as a result I have decided to restore them once and for all. I am interested in a full mouth reconstruction, however, all my teeth are still in place, albeit with a golden glow, only broken by areas of black; would the fact they are still there cause a problem or limit my options? I have read about implants, mini implants and bridges, as I would obviously want to avoid dentures if at all possible. I am hoping that I can only have work on the teeth that are on show when I smile, both upper and lower, and simply have fillings in the back teeth. It seems to me that a bridge would be my cheapest option, with implants being the most costly, but would a bridge be able to extend from one upper 6 across to the other and the same for the lower teeth? Also, I would like the ‘false’ teeth to be quite white, as they would not be on show with any of my other teeth; would this be possible? If it were possible to have a pair of bridges of this size, could you advise me as to an approximate cost I would pay. If a bridge of this size was not possible mini implants would be my next choice, however, I am unsure of how common surgeries with this option are; could you please advise? And would the mini implants also be able to extend from the above stated teeth, and could you please advise on a approximate cost for this method with my estimated sizes? I understand that these surgeries depend on factors such as gum and bone structure, but, if my mouth is able to accommodate, as mentioned above would I need to have my remaining teeth removed (at extra cost?) or would they preventnall together? Thank you for your time

something other than invisalign express aligners

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008
Q.
Hello Dr. Bohara.I had braces when i was 13 (5 years ago). unfortunatly i took them off with tweezers. Many times i had wore them with many brackets that pop’d out my teeth.I also never wore aligners..i’ve notice how my face change during puberty has my motuh seem’d open even when close, and how i was very unhappy how my face seemed to sink.so last 9 months i’ve recieve my invisalign express aligners, thus my orthodontist said my teeth were in good condition, i wanted to finsh what i started. now i’m on my last set of aligners, im extremly unhappy & uncomfortable how my teeth feel and how my mouth looks as if its been pushed back. My question is if i get braces again, would it push my teeth foward or as it was? is there any other appliance that will help on this matter?
