Is It Worth Having My Front Teeth Crowned At The Age Of 75?

Monday, July 15th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I was wondering if you’d be kind enough to offer some advice? My 4 front teeth are quite discoloured, grey looking and I would like to have them capped but I know this is very expensive. I am 75 and wonder if it would really be worth it! Also I am very worried about the pain that the injection for the anesthetic would cause as basically I am a coward with a fear of needles. My second tooth upper right is allready capped and has badly dicoloured over the years so that now it is a deep cream colour and badly shows up the grey teeth. Can you advise as to cost and whether I should have the treatment? I just want it fixing so I can smile properly again, I don’t think age should be a factor in this but I’m not sure. Thanks for your time.

I Can’t Smile Because Of My Broken Teeth, Can You Help Me?

Friday, July 12th, 2013
Q.

Hello. I have got a broken tooth, which is near the front of mouth so I don’t like to smile at all and this has been really getting me down. I stopped going to the dentist two years ago as my dentist often caused me a lot of pain and left me shaking in the chair which put me off for life. He really scared me and he never tried to ease any of my fears or concerns. He was always so abrupt and almost mean! But I want nice teeth so I can smile and I’m only 22. I am desperate for some help! I was wondering if you could help me?…also do you do finance that I could pay off on a monthly basis perhaps?
I do have bad teeth but I brush twice a day now. I’m really trying to get them back to normal once again. Please help me!!!

My Boyfriend Had His 2 Front Teeth Knocked out, Is He Eligible For Dental Implants?

Friday, July 12th, 2013
Q.

Hi my boyfriend has had his 2 front teeth knocked out playing sports. He is a full time mature student at present and has no savings so feels his only option affordable to him would be to get dentures. Is it true that he can apply for a hc2 certificate which would pay for NHS dental care? Would this cover anything towards dental implants? If not then do any dentists offer affordable and realistic (for that individual) treatment plans over a period of time, even when the treatment is complete? He’s only young and isn’t ready for dentures I feel, plus he would like it if the treatment could blend in naturally with the rest of his natural teeth. I think that a denture may appear bulky and will affect his speech. Can you please offer an advice? Thank you for your time.

How Much Would It Cost For Me To Have My Missing Front Teeth Replaced With Dental Implants?

Friday, July 12th, 2013
Q.

Hi. I have been conducting some research on dental implants as I’ve been very desperate for the replacement of my missing front teeth for a long time! I finally have the money to have them replaced so I want to know how much it will cost for me to have 2 implants in the upper jaw at the front? I’m fed up of seeing missing teeth there. So, I would like your advice. Thank you.

Can I Have My Chipped Teeth Fixed By The NHS?

Friday, July 12th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I wondered if you would be able to offer me some advice? My teeth are badly chipped, in fact they are chipped down nearly half way. My dentist keeps commenting on how bad they look and had suggested I should have bonding at££100 per tooth! I have just had a baby and my teeth have become loose as well,my dentist suggested a periodontist at £50 for consultation and £59 per x ray!! I can not afford any of this treatment – can any of this be fixed on the NHS?I don’t know what else I can do, it’s not just for cosmetic reasons that I need these chips fixing. They’re causing my teeth to feel sensitive and I can’t eat very well either. I can’t afford to go back to this dentist, maybe if I could set up a finance scheme or something, perhaps? Any help will be great, thank you.

Has Chewing Food Caused My Gums To Recede?

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Bohara, I am hoping that you can advise me with something. Is it possible that the gum that surrounds the inner sufaces of the upper molars, at the roof of the mouth, could be gradually worn away or pushed away from the tooth, perhaps caused by years of chewing food?
I am now 40 years old and have very sensitive teeth in this region of my mouth due to the receded gum line and I was wondering what treatment options are available in order to fix or halt this?
The receded gum is on the left side of my face. This is the side that I tend to use most often when chewing food. I have never had any real dental problems until now so I’m not really sure how to go about getting help for this particular issue of mine.Thank you for your help.

If I Have My Wisdom Teeth Removed Will My Cheekbones Look More Defined?

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013
Q.

Hi there. I’m a 22 year old male. I have 3 almost fully grown wisdom teeth. (One which is currently on the bottom scratching against my cheek- like the others had done) I am however annoyed that the structure of my face has changed because of them. My cheekbones used to be incredibly more defined and so was my jaw. I am unsure if it was the onset of the wisdom teeth that have detrimentally manipulated the structure of my face of if it was just my face maturing into a more masculine shape- (but wisdom teeth are a sign of maturing) Anyways I was wondering what I could do if I wanted to remove them? If that was a possibility- And how much it would cost to do so? (I have read about models taking out wisdom teeth to create more defined cheekbones) And also if i did remove them-would my cheekbones and jaw line go back to the way they were? thank you

Is It Normal To Feel Light-Headed Following A Tooth Extraction?

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, can you help ease my mind please? Is it normal for the extraction socket from two upper teeth to be a hole with white stuff around the opening and the gum the day after tooth extraction? I had no pain and no swelling and am already on antibiotics also I am 13 weeks pregnant it was simple uncomplicated extraction over in less than five minutes. I only had minimum amount of bleeding not really ate yet so it isn’t anything to do with that. Is it time yet to use salt water? I have also been feeling bit hot shaky and light headed, is this normal too? It’s just scaring me a little, I didn’t expect any of this to happen as I said it was just a very straightforward extraction! Thanks for the help.

My New Retainer Caused My Straight Smile To Look Misaligned, What Can I Do?

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013
Q.

hi i wondered if you could please advise me on something? i have had braces on in the past, and my teeth after were perfect, but since having a retainer which i lost on a holiday my teeth moved, and in the front two teeth a large gap has occurred, i went back to the orthodontist and they moulded a new retainer which cost me 60 pound, for a retainer of the moved teeth which i wasn’t happy about, is there anyway of fitting a new brace on free of charge, as the price of braces are too expensive due to fact of i am only 18 and still in college. This means that I can’t receive treatment free through the NHS doesn’t it? I don’t know what to do, the retainer just completely ruined the new movement of my perfectly straight teeth! Surely my orthodontist should do something about this? Thanks for any advice!

Where Can I Have Waterlase MD Gum Treatment?

Thursday, July 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I wondered if you could advise me on something? I have dark gums due to smoking cigars for a long time! I would like to get waterlase MD to make them look pink and health once more. Can you please tell me if you do this or where in the UK I can get the procedure done. I have tried several places in Harley street and all over London, and some of the dentists haven’t even heard of the procedure of gum de-pigmentation. The US offers it everywhere. I also wondered if you could please let me know about teeth bleaching too? Do you think this could improve the appearance of my gums or will it only make them look worse? I’d like to know what sort of whitening treatments are the most effective. Thank you for the help in advance, regards.
