I’m 71 Years Old And Want To Know If I Am Eligible To Have Veneers Done Through The NHS?

Tuesday, August 20th, 2013
Q.

Throughout my life I have had my teeth looked after by visiting my local dentist. In the past I have had heart surgery (valve replacement )
and I am on the prescription drug, Warfarin for the rest of my life. It is a worry to me that if I needed teeth extractions, I would have to go to the dental hospital, in case of any excessive bleeding. I am unsure of my course of action as I believe that would be a problem for me as I would probably need to stop taking Warfarin during the time of any dental treatment. I am 71 years old and receive pension credit. Do you have any information on that would help know if I would I be able to have my veneers done free of charge?

I Have A Crown With A Post That Keeps Coming Loose. What Is The Best Way To Get This Fixed?

Wednesday, August 14th, 2013
Q.

Why does my crown with a post keep coming loose? It is about 11 years old and I have been to my dentist at least 3 times in order to have it glued back in.  It is a front tooth with 5 more crowns next to it, all of which are fine so I just wondered if it may be the case that the crown could be glued in stronger?  I would be very grateful for your advice as I am getting to the point of thinking about having it removed and having a false tooth fitted as a replacement.

I Have To Wear My Retainer To Hide The Gap In My Smile – What Are My Options?

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I have been self conscious about my teeth for almost all my life as I have a small gap between my teeth. I did have braces for a year and a bit however my gap never really closed although it did reduce in size. I still think about it and it effects my confidence. I wear my retainer whenever I go out in public as I am so embarrassed and quite aware of how it looks. My teeth are also quite small which I hate. I use my retainer, which gives the illusion of closed straight teeth and a full smile. However it has been about 4 years and I don’t want this problem to hinder me for the rest of my life. What can I do? I’m 17 years old and in need of your advice.

My New Crowns Are Discoloured, What Should I Do About This?

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013
Q.

I have recently had 9 of my crowns renewed by a cosmetic dentist. I love the shape however my front upper 4 are showing a grey blueish tint to them especially in darker light they look very grey. I have gone back to the dentist and they have agreed to change one which has particular blueish shading on the tooth. I was told that this was the post underneath showing through. Which I guess that with the other 3 it is probably the post colour underneath showing through giving a greyish look in certain light, I paid £500 per tooth. What is your advice? I was thinking about going for a second opinion?

My Missing Teeth Are Knocking My Confidence, Which Treatment Option Would Be Right For Me?

Friday, August 2nd, 2013
Q.

I have upper left 5 missing and upper right 5,6,7,8 missing (hope I have got that right). I want to have these gaps filled but what is my best options other than implants? which I can not afford, quoted £4,500 because I need bone graft and sinus pocket lift etc. Chrome metal partial denture but I don’t like the clips, they will show when I smile and last I have been quoted £2,000 for bridges which I can not afford either. I would appreciate any help whatsoever that you can give me with this. It is an issue which has been playing on my mind for quite sometime now and it is knocking my confidence. Any response would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

If I Invested In Implant Supported Dentures Could I Still Play My Saxophone?

Thursday, August 1st, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Patel, I just wondered if you could advise me on something? It looks like my lower teeth cannot be saved. The uppers have already been gone for 4 years, and a recent bout with chemotherapy has advanced the decay in my lowers. The only thing I could possibly afford would be mini-implant supported removable dentures. The upper dentures have already ruined my career as a saxophone player — do you think the solution will allow me to play? When done properly, it shouldn’t put any more pressure on the teeth than chewing nuts, for instance? Can you please advise me, I don’t want my career to be in ruins too, I’m not sure what route to turn down. Thanks in advance.

I Suffer From Epilepsy And The Medication Has Ruined My Teeth, What Can I Do?

Tuesday, July 23rd, 2013
Q.

Hi, I suffer from a number of medical conditions, including epilepsy. Due to lots of medication over a lot of years and side effects. My hair, skin and teeth have suffered. My teeth are crooked, but due to illnesses and medications they have also become very weak. I have lost one tooth already. I have no confidence left due to these illnesses and haven’t visited the dentist in a while because of this. I hate my teeth and speak to people and laugh with my hand over my mouth as I am so self conscious about my teeth. I am a single parent who due to these awful illnesses is unable to work. Is there anyway I can get my teeth sorted on the NHS? I’m desperate for help and I just don’t want them getting worse than they already are. Thank you for your kind advice in advance.
