What is the best solution to repair a loose post crown connected to a bridge and another post crown?

Friday, January 4th, 2013
Q.

hi im looking for some advice/information please what are the options/best solution to repairing a loose post crown connected to a bridge and another post crown? on the upper jaw, at the front, one of the tooth routes has apparently got a split (not certain??) and the advice given was to remove the tooth completely, wait 3-6 months for it to heal and then fit a new bridge spanning the gap of three teeth. is this a recommended course of action couldnt the existing bridge just be cemented back in? (i have a new dentist and im a bit unsure of her!) any response is welcome thank you

Can my growing wisdom teeth cause my already protruding incisor to look even worse?

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. My problem is that my lateral incisor sticks out as there isn’t enough space between my canine and front incisor so it sits on top of both with a small gap behind about 1/2 cm. I could be wrong but the canine appears to be larger then the other side and is square in shape and is wider at the bottom. My top wisdom teeth have been coming up really slowly for about 2 years no and I am worried that they may push my teeth further making it worse. Can this happen? I am already very paranoid about it…also I am a bit apprehensive about braces so would appreciate any ideas on other solutions. Any advice would be great, thank you.

Can I have dental implants if I have type 1 diabetes?

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012
Q.

Hi Andrew, I have just returned from my dentist who has advised me that I have a number of loose teeth and that this is due to receding bone in my jaw. It is likely that I will lose these teeth including one which has a bridge attached. I am a 59 year old and have had type 1 diabetes for 30 yrs. My blood glucose control has not been great in the last few years but I’m working on it. Given these factors, am I likely to be suitable for implants? and what do these cost (per tooth). I have done a little research but not sure if I will be suitable and I am worried as I want the teeth replacing as soon and quickly as possible. Thanks for your time.

Where can i find a good cosmetic dentist?

Monday, December 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi Andrew, I’m 25 and my teeth are a complete shambles! This is mostly my fault as I was a heavy smoker and liked fizzy drinks. I’ve recently quit both, however I’m undergoing treatment for a medical condition which involves a high dose of steroids and I’m convinced they are affecting my teeth as well! I have a slight phobia of the dentist and untill recently I hadn’t been since I was 16. I had to go in June this year as my horse had knocked one of my front teeth out! I had a temporary post fitted and was due to go back but I moved to a diffirent county. I found a dentist closer to home and all he wanted to do was tell me how awful my teeth are and that I’ll have none left by he time im 30! Well I know that! And to be fair it took alot for me to even go to him, just to be treated like a second class citizen. I’m not terribly well off… I’m signed off from work for medical reasons however my teeth are a priority and I’m willing to spend whatever it takes to have a nice smile! Is there a way I can set up a payment plan with a dentist for the work I need done as it’s going to cost thousands and I don’t have it upfront but can afford up to £200 a month.  Where can I find a good cosmetic dentist? I live in Kent. Thanks.

Would an onlay stop food becoming trapped in my back teeth?

Friday, December 7th, 2012
Q.

Hi, dr moore. I have a filling which spans the back 2 upper left molars. I have noticed that when I eat I get food trapped, I presumably underneath the filling, which is causing pain and it smells really bad.
My dentist told me that it is because my gum line has shrunk and the food is getting stuck between the gum and the filling.

She said replacing the filling would not necessarily stop the food becoming trapped. another dentist told me that instead I could have a dental onlay but it is much more expensive. Would an onlay stop the food being trap or will it always happen because of a shrunken gum line? I don’t know which option to go for and I need it fixing ASAP. Thank you for any help, kind regards.

I am registered disabled, can I get dental implants through the NHS?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

hi dr moore. i am 47 and have no top teeth due to gum disease and as a result of domestic abuse as my ex-husband who knocked a lot of them out. i have a full top denture but it is uncomfortable, and does not stay in place even using denture fixatives. i do not seem to be able to use my front teeth for biting they just don;t work. how much would implants cost? and would it be possible to get any assistance from the nhs given my circumstances? i currently am on the nhs list with my dentist and am registered disabled. i have tried numerous denture fixatives but none of them stick them in well enough.Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi Doctor Moore, I am 28 years old. i have more 4 root canals in my mouth and covered by crowns. i was not very careful about my oral health but now i have been doing flossing, cleaning properly since last year. my front teeth have not undergone any treatment yet. but a gap is generating day by day between these teeth and it looks unaesthetic. is due to flossing? i am not too old to loose my teeth. there is a gum shrinkage in these teeth. in spite of all my measures of brushing, flossing etc , there is no positivism. What should i do? i want to save my front teeth at least to preserve my smile. please help.

I have a small gap in between my two front teeth following brace treatment, will my retainer fix this?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi Doctor Moore. I had my train track braces removed a few years ago and very rarely wore my plastic removable retainers. My teeth have remained straight but I have a small gap between my front two teeth. Those could be caused by the fact I suck my thumb! I was wondering if I would need to have braces again to close the gap or if wearing my retainer again would close the gap? If I was to give up sucking my thumb would my teeth move again and close the gap? I really don’t want to go back to wearing braces again, would I maybe require a bonded retainer do you think? I can see the gap getting bigger every day and it is worrying me…Thank you for your help. Kind regards.

I think I have a crossbite and it is causing me a lot of pain when I eat, can I get this corrected through the NHS?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi Doctor Moore. My name is Steven and I’m 29 years old. My jaw seems to hang lower on the left side of my face and on that side I can not put my teeth together, therefore I have never been able to chew food on that side of my mouth. Also when viewed in the mirror, my jaw on the left side is quite markedly lower than on my right side and looks as if it is not seated correctly. Because my right hand side of the jaw is solely used, it is starting to cause pain as I cannot chew food on my other side. Is there any way I can get this corrected on the NHS? and do you have any idea as to what has caused these problems in the first place? Many thanks and kind regards!

My upper bridge is causing me to have bad breath, why is this?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

hi doctor moore. i have upper bridge which is causing me problems.
despite brushing and flossing daily my wife tells me my breath is really bad, which is extremely embarrassing! i think food particles are getting under the bridge.i cannot afford implants at the moment as i am unemployed. SO could the bridge be sealed in any way to prevent food getting in? i am seriously thinking of getting bridge removed as i am desperate this would leave me with a slight gap in my front teeth but i cannot continue as its very embarrassing and as you can imagine my wife is growing agitated. thank you for your time.
