Are there any other alternatives to the awful appliance that my daughter has to wear to bring her jaw forward?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
My 12 year old daughter has been refered to an orthodontist for nhs treatment. She has a 10mm overjet, and has to wear a functional appliance to bring her lower jaw forward. However, the appliance she has been given is absolutely hideous and my daughter is absolutely distraught at having to wear it in public. It has a plastic plate that fits into her palate which clips onto the back teeth, with a wire coming round her front teeth. Protruding from the front of the palate from behind her front teeth, is a huge sort of gum shield that comes down to sit on her lower front teeth, to pull her lower jaw forward, that fills up the front of her mouth. My question is therefore is it possible to get a different and more discreet style of appliance that would do the same job? I have seen other types of appliances online, twin blocks etc that look much less obtrusive. The orthodontist is extremely unhelpful and uninformative, when i rang to ask this question, she wouldnt speak to me personally, but through her receptionist informed me that this was the only style that would do the job without explaining why, and that she just had to get on with it and wear it. My daughter is so upset by it all.,

I don’t know whether to choose the fixed braces or invisalign, any advice?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
hi, well basically i am 25 and unhappy with my teeth. I have an overjet on the top 2 teeth and crowding on the bottom front teeth. I was interested in invalign and have been to see two orthodontists. The first one assured me that my teeth would be perfect at the end of the treatment but the second one put me off slightly as he said that my teeth would be much better than they are now but to get the best result i would have to get a traditional fixed brace…leaving me confused as i dont want the fixed brace but i dont want to pay for invisalign and not get the desired results. *the second ortho said that there are two teeth on,

My teeth have eroded, how much would it cost to fill in the gaps?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
I’ll try and keep this short but i have a bad acid erosion problem on my front teeth. In the past 2 years i’ve been recovering from a long suicide, obesity and depression problem and during that time i was hardly ever brushing my teeth. Now my left front tooth and the one next to it have eroaded and i’ve been sticking a bit of cotton wool into it to fill in the unsightly gap, but it’s obvious i’m attempting to cover it and i desperatley need to find something to do to either fill in the gap or cover the teeth. How much would a procedure like this cost in £ and is there a safe and cheap alternative? Thank you for your time,

I have very bad teeth as a result of having mumps when I was younger, can I get them whitened?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hello, when i was young i had mumps which lead to my teeth not developing correctly, as a result i have horrible patchy yellow-ish marks on my teeth and they are generally in bad condition, i find that my gums often bleed and even eating some foods make my teeth feel as if they are just going to break off. Obviously i want to get them whitened and was wondering how much this would cost? Any other tips would be helpful because i REALLY do not want to have my teeth falling out before i even get to university in september. xx,

The new crown I got was way too long and had to be filed down. Is this sort of adjustment normal or did someone make a mistake?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, yesterday I went to get a crown fitted on one of my front teeth. When the dentist first showed it to me the crown was significantly too long. After he’d reduced the length the bottom of the crown was flat and rough. Is this sort of ajustment normally necessary or did the people making the crown make a mistake? He didn’t fix it permenantly to give me time to think about it.,

What is the best option to move or replace a tooth? Should I go for an implant or a bridge?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hello, I fell off my bike as a child when my adult teeth were very new and smacked my left front tooth – the root had not finished developing and the tooth subsequently died and discoloured. I had a root canal and a crown placed on it as an adult but I think my teeth have since moved a bit and it sticks out now at the front and has been borderline wobbly for years. I am wondering whether there is any point in getting braces (for the 3rd time! At 38!) to move a dead root or should I go for an implant or a bridge (am worried there might not be enough room for another tooth the same size as my existing front tooth). Having had all 4 wisdom teeth out in one go and two lots of braces I must admit to not being so fond of dentists so the least painful option is always going to be appreciated! I should also admit that I live on island in the Maldives so I can’t get to the dentist often…. does this rule out braces completely? Apologies for the novel, hope you can point me in the right direction! Thank you for your help,

I need a full smile makeover, and I wondered if you had any information concerning price and the general procedures involved?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi. I’ve had trouble with my teeth from a young age. A combination of factors has lead to this. Not brushing regularly as a child, eating too much sugary foods and a terrible fear of the dentist. I’ve had several back teeth taken out and now have metal fillings in most of the remaining teeth. Ideally I would like a complete smile makeover including veneers, White fillings and whitening procedure. I would like to know how best to go about getting this work done. I believe I need 9 White filling replacements 8 veneers. I live in northern Ireland and would like to know 1. How a dentist would go about this work and 2. A rough guide as to how much it would cost. Thanks,
