Can Anything Be Done About the Plaque at the Bottom of My Teeth?

Monday, July 20th, 2015
Q.

Hello,

I have TMJ and the last time it flared up badly my jaw locked near shut for over 6 months (probably closer to a year). During these months I very much struggled to brush my teeth and they have been damaged. When my jaw finally unlocked, I went to get the issues fixed, but some remain and I keep having problems.

My big concern at the moment is white plaque staining along the bottoms of some of my teeth that can’t be removed. Concerning one tooth in particular (which I know had staining on it), I looked at it and it seems as though the plaque has finally eaten into that tooth as the part it was on is gone. I’m not sure if it’s the enamel or the plating has come away. I’ve booked an appointment with my dentist, but can anything be done for the bottom of the tooth? I’m worried that nothing is going to be able to be done for it (and ultimately that I’ll end up losing it).

Thanks.

How Easy Is It For A Dentist To Remove Denseal From A Temporary Tooth?

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015
Q.

My question is: how easy is it for a dentist to remove Denseal from the enamel of a tooth fixed as a temporary repair for a chipped tooth? This is worrying me as I have an appointment next week.and like the other people, I am embarrassed about it.The repair covers the hole with a strip along the back of the tooth to stop it from falling out. It’s not meant as a permanent fix, just while I wait a month for my appointment. Thanks.

How Can I Get Rid of Tooth Sensitivity?

Thursday, June 11th, 2015
Q.

I feel sensitivity in my teeth even when I breath. I’ve used many sensitive toothpastes but had no recovery on a permanent basis. I feel dryness in my mouth when I awake in the morning along with bad breath. I used to brush my teeth before going to bed. Can you suggest something so I could get rid of this situation? I have already visited many dentists but no permanent solution has been found for my problem. Some of my friends told me about online treatment.

The Quote I’ve Been Given for Implants is Too Expensive, What Should I Do?

Wednesday, June 10th, 2015
Q.

Hi,  I saw the work that you did on the lady on This Morning. I have had numerous problems with my top teeth for years – numerous crowns and bridges and now a tooth on a plate. I am 55 years old but have kept myself in fairly good condition on the whole.I am very embarrassed about my teeth. I have never let my partner see me without my teeth in. I have had many problems with my gums also. I have even glued my teeth back in, desperate measures I know, but I was abroad at the time and that seemed the only solution. I have recently given up smoking to help with my health and gums too. I have had a quote for implants which was well out of my means. Please could you help? Many thanks.

How Can My Child’s Fluorosis Be Treated?

Thursday, May 28th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I hope you can help. My little 7 year old daughter’s teeth have began erupting. She is showing signs of moderate fluorosis with white opaque patches and yellow marks on her front incisors. I realise she is still very young, but this is extremely distressing for her. She was once a bubbly happy child but is now being bullied at school, it’s horrible. Is there anything that can be done now to ease her suffering? Thank you.

What Can I Do To Prevent Further Decay Until I See a Dentist?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015
Q.

I have recently become very concerned about my teeth. I haven’t been to the dentist in 4 years and in that time I haven’t really suffered, but after inspecting my teeth I have noticed that four of my teeth on my lower jaw (the molars) are discoloured and on two of them it is obvious that it is tooth decay (there is black in the crevices). I’m not registered with an NHS dentist but I am on the waiting list (I live in Wales – where it seems to be near impossible to get in to any dentist) and I am not working at the moment so cannot afford private care, is there anything I can do to prevent these cavities from getting worse until I am able to get an appointment for them to be treated? I am also very nervous of any judgment that I may receive when I eventually do get to see a dentist. Any advice that you have would be much appreciated – thank you!

How Much Would It Cost to Have My Tooth Evened Out?

Tuesday, April 28th, 2015
Q.

Hello. I have one uneven tooth in my mouth and I would like to know how much will it will cost to get it shaped up to look like the rest? It is just one long tooth in the front, the rest of my teeth are just fine. I just want that big tooth where you have the two big teeth in the front, but the one to the right is a tad longer then the others. I just need that to be shaped up and even like the rest of them. I would like to know the cost?

I Have a Painful Lump in My Mouth, What Should I Do?

Wednesday, April 8th, 2015
Q.

I have a lump inside my mouth on the lower gum on my jaw. It feels really strange when I talk, eat and smile. It’s quite painful. The pain feels like shooting pains in a way. It also hurts if I bend my head to the left (the side the lump is on). Please help me, what should I do? I’m really worried in case it is a gum infection or cancer because I am young. I only found the lump 10 minutes ago but as soon I started having lunch the pain started. Thank you.

Is My Old Dentist Legally Obliged to Send X-Rays to My New Dentist?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2015
Q.

Hello Mark. I am a working pensioner who moved 85 miles away 5 years ago from a dentist who took over from my previously excellent dentist who retired. I continued to see this new dentist as for simple routine dental procedures he seemed OK.

Extracting a tooth recently and replacing with an additional tooth to my lower denture, costing me over £200 proved to be a disaster, causing me pain and inflammation. Any adjustments made were unsuccessful. I was unhappy with his technique, which seemed brusque and caused more pain, sticking an x-ray plate into my sore mouth and suggesting that he would need to remove the root of the tooth he’d extracted. I said I would have to think about this.

I have since seen a clinical dental technician, on recommendation, who removed the offending tooth replacing with another onto my denture immediately. Though the gum became sore slightly, it is far more comfortable and I know I can return to him for adjustment.

My 2 questions are: 1.When I find a good and experienced dentist in/near Brighton, Sussex, is my existing dentist legally obliged to send all x-rays and my dental history from his practice to my new dentist?
2. Can I insist that any dentist who I see use the clinical dental technician I found for myself as described above, although is he is even further away than 85 miles? I have confidence in him.

Sorry for this very long email and many, many thanks.

How Can I Get My Denture to Fit Comfortably?

Thursday, March 26th, 2015
Q.

I am having problems getting my partial Valplast denture to fit comfortably. There are tight spots and it feels like my gums are being strangled. There are pressure points on the gum. The dentist has been making adjustments. Also my mouth feels constantly dry. My tongue feels dry and I can’t speak properly because of this dryness. The palate of the denture has been polished twice now. It is a new denture, but after a few days it gets rough and I think this is what’s causing the dryness. Help!
