I’ve Been Terrified Of The Dentist Ever Since I Got Work Done In My Twenties. Now I’m 55, Is The Any Hope For A New Smile?

Friday, February 7th, 2014
Q.

Dr Moore, I’ve been terrified of the dentist ever since I got work done in my twenties. I have not been since and as you can imagine my teeth are pretty bad.  I still have 5 front teeth on my top and 9 on my bottom set. The back ones are in bits literally. The teeth are worn down, is there any hope for me? My personal and social life is being affected  as I am avoiding photographs and going to social gatherings. I am 55 years old and would like a smile back before it’s to late if it isn’t already.

I Don’t Like Pain Or Needles – What Are The Alternatives For People With Dental Phobia?

Monday, February 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Kailesh. My teeth have been sensitive to cold for over a year now so I had it filled but the filling keeps coming out so now it gets more sensitive to cold in my teeth. I don’t like needles, so could you tell me if there is any other way to have it taken out?  I’m one those people who don’t do pain or needles, so if there is any other way of taking it out then I would love to hear about it. I don’t like needles because the last time I had a needle in my gums didn’t go down till 2 weeks later. I couldn’t eat or drink or brush my teeth in the morning or night because I was in so much pain and that was about 7 years ago now. People have been telling me it only takes 2 minutes – not even that – but I hope to have it out soon and I’m hoping that it doesn’t happen the way it did 7 years ago. I hope you can help me.

I’ve Been Scared Of Visiting A Dentist Since I Last Had Dental Surgery. What Can Be Done To Calm Me Down?

Thursday, January 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, after a really scary experience I had with a dental surgery in my Twenties, I’ve had really bad teeth and have had a gap in the front offset to my left for some years, which I have never had it looked at or replaced. After reading a lot about bridge options I’m now too scared to see a dentist because of there condition, can you give me any advice and if there are now procedures in place for nervous customers. Thank you.

Can You Tell Me If I Can Get My Crown Down Under General Anaesthetic? Sedation Doesn’t Work For Me.

Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. Can you please advise me whether I would be able to have a general anaesthetic to have a crown done? I am extremely nervous and cannot bring myself to have it done even under sedation as this has not worked for me in the past. It is a tooth at the front that has broken before and my dentist has suggested a crown to fix it permanently. I really am very nervous and was even in tears yesterday just at the though of going to my dentist for her to have a look at it. I know this will probably be very expensive but it is the only way I feel that I can go through with it.

I Broke My Jaw A Few Years Back And Since Then My Top Teeth Have Started To Decay. How Can I Afford This Treatment?

Wednesday, December 18th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I’m 25 years old and have some seriously bad teeth, to the point where I don’t smile! I did have my jaw broke a few years back and my teeth have got so much worse since then! I have been in a lot of pain in previous procedures and I don’t think I could go through it again! My main issue at the moment is a decaying surface on one of my top teeth which is very visible and it’s getting me down! Do you have any advice that can help me? Financially is there any thing you can help me with also? Thanks.

I Have Dental Phobia! My Teeth Have Been Neglected Due To Past Fears. Can You Help Me Fix My Teeth?

Thursday, December 5th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have a dental phobia!! Can you help me? My teeth are in a very bad condition and I am embarrassed by them everyday, I worry constantly about my crowns and other teeth falling out, several of them have fallen out and I only have partial teeth in places. I know the time as come to seek help.
I do not have a needle phobia which I know stops a lot of people seeking dental care. My fear is partly irrational and partly due to past experiences. Hopefully you can help me to move forward.
Thank you.

I Am 5 Months Pregnant. Would I Get A White Filling For Free Through The NHS?

Thursday, December 5th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I’m currently nearly 5 months pregnant, I have a maternity exemption form and I just wanted to know something, a couple of months after I had my son I was brushing my teeth and the inside corner up to the halfway mark chipped off one of my top front teeth, I never got it looked at because I was always ashamed of it never smiling in front of people and never laughing and so from then a month or two after that it broke up to the top and was more ashamed to let anybody see it. It’s been like this now for around 2 years, would I have to pay for this as it would need a white filling, thanks in advance.

I Am Nervous About Going To The Dentist As I Have Gum Disease And I Fear What Will Happen In A Case Like Mine?

Wednesday, December 4th, 2013
Q.

I suffer with gum disease and now have what feels like a sizeable gap in my two main front teeth at the top.

I have been told my only option is to have the top four teeth removed and a denture fitted. I am reluctant to do this as I feel it is quite drastic and once done there is no going back!

I have been told a permanent fixture of new teeth is not an option due to the gum desease.

I am incredibly nervous at going to the dentist, fear the pain and also being judged for allowing my teeth to get this bad.

Would a cosmetic dentist consider composite bonding in a case like mine?

Many thanks.

My Husband Has Suffered Bad Dentistry And Has Lost Teeth As A Result. Would He Be A Suitable Candidate For Implants?

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013
Q.

My husband is 55 and has had very bad experiences with dentists resulting over time in his teeth being removed, bad cosmetic dentistry etc. The result is that he has very few teeth of his own left and a variety of bad caps/coverings etc. Before that he had a lovely smile and is now very self conscious and is desperate to get his smile back, but is very nervous about going to the dentist and ashamed about the condition of his teeth. What treatments would be available to him? Would he be a suitable candidate for implants? If so what is the price range for this work?
Thank you.
