Could I Pay For Veneers With a Monthly Credit Scheme?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015
Q.

Hi, I am 50 years old and have nice looking teeth but due to my gums
receding I am starting to lose my teeth. I have 2 teeth near the front of my mouth that need to be removed. They are painful and really loose. I would like to have veneers. I no longer work because of health reasons and my monthly benefit is barely enough to live on. If I have veneers how much would they be and would I be able to pay for them with a monthly credit scheme? Also, do you know of any cheaper option? I know I am limited because I will have no more teeth on that side of my mouth when the 2 teeth next to each other come out.

Is Teeth Whitening That Uses Peroxide Safe?

Monday, October 19th, 2015
Q.

Hello there. I would like to whiten my teeth, which are quite discoloured. I do not smoke so I guess it’s age and tea drinking mainly! (I am 65yrs old). Most dentists use peroxide based systems, but some people say these damage the teeth enamel. Are these chemicals safe to use or will they possibly damage the enamel in the long term? There seem to be some articles that suggest peroxide should not be used. Thank you.

Will a Single Veneer Improve My Smile?

Friday, October 2nd, 2015
Q.

Hello. I have one tooth on the top set that is set back from the other front two teeth, making it look like a really small tooth spot and when I have pictures taken, on one side it can look like the tooth is missing all together. It really is knocking my confidence. I can’t smile properly without being nervous. I have seen pictures of other patients with teeth worse than mine and they have veneers. Will a single veneer sort this out? Thank you.

Can I Get Dental Help From the NHS or Will I Need to Go Private?

Thursday, September 24th, 2015
Q.

I had an eating disorder for many years and now my front teeth are very worn and sensitive. They now look more like fangs than teeth due to vomiting and brushing my teeth straight after. Do the NHS help with cosmetic dentistry in cases like mine or would I have to go private and what would the cost be? I have had to have three back teeth removed in the past not because they had rotten, more that the small holes caused by acid caused a great deal of pain. Now I no longer feel like I can smile, I don’t like people to see my front teeth.

What Advice Can You Give Me Following a Bad Dental Implants Experience?

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015
Q.

Hi there. I had a maxillary posterior 3 tooth bridge partly taken out in January this year due to the back abutment (2nd molar) decaying despite attending hygienist sessions. The bridge was partly cut off along with the pontic and the other abutment tooth (root filled). My premolar tooth remains as a single crown. After 3 opinions from dentists who offer dental implants I chose the dentist who felt I didn’t need a bone graft and could install a short fat implant (Osteocare Mazi Z Flat end 4.5mm x 8mm) where the pontic had been and an Osteocare Mazi Z flat end 12mm x 5.5mm to replace my 2nd (back tooth) molar. He seemed confident and these were both placed in June this year. No detailed aftercare was provided, no follow up appointment and 3 weeks after the crown and post on the shorter implant fell out. I was appalled as I have paid this dentist over £4000 for his “expertise”. I went back immediately and now he wants to remove the last part of the original bridge and remove the tooth that I paid the same practice £800 for 2 years ago to provide a root filling. I don’t really feel comfortable with the same dentist now and have looked into the whole way this has been handled. The dentist I believe is about 60 years old and I noticed early on his hands trembled which was not reassuring. Plus why didn’t he assess my bone height and quality before going ahead with treatment? I was given no sinus lift or bone graft and now I am worried that the back implant may not last in the long term. He wants to give me an implant bridge (3 tooth on 2 implants) but I would rather have separate teeth. This was why I wanted implants originally and saved my money accordingly. I am due to have my premolar extracted in October but all I really want is to have a refund and go to someone who is going to do a proper assessment of that part of my jaw, which I understand is the most challenging area to place implants, and keep me fully informed of what he or she is going to do and a comprehensive aftercare programme which I believe is key to successful implants. What advice can you give me?

How Can I Realign Two Lateral Incisors Following Brace Treatment?

Thursday, September 10th, 2015
Q.

Hello, I had braces from the age of 15 until 17, having them taken off at the end of 2012. The results were very good and my teeth were very straight. I wore my retainer and complied for the first year or so and then lost my retainer accidentally. My two lateral incisors started to move back slightly, more on the left side than on the right. I then found my retainer and tried to wear it again to try to move them back in line but the retainers no longer fit. The retainers are gone again and I cannot find them anywhere. I know it is too late to get a replacement seeing as I got my braces taken off nearly 3 years ago. I would like to realign the two incisors as the rest of my teeth are still straight. I can’t imagine I would need any complicated treatment but wanted some advice on what would be the best option. Would veneers be the best or an invisible brace? Or a removable plate? Thank you.

How Could My Smile Be Improved?

Thursday, August 20th, 2015
Q.

Instead of having 4 front top teeth, I only have 3. What is your recommendation to get a nice smile? I have no gaps/spaces between any of my teeth. My 4th teeth never grew in. I don’t believe I have a 4 tooth at all. I am 36 years old and never take pictures with my family. I have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, and husband. They all love to smile and take pictures, however I don’t. I would love to take a family portrait, but I am not comfortable with showing my teeth. I have recently been going to the dentist to get my cavities taken care of. I would never go to the dentist in the past because I am afraid to let people look in my mouth.

How Can I Improve My Smile, And How Much Will It Cost?

Monday, August 17th, 2015
Q.

I have 5 top teeth, there’s two in the middle,1 to the left and two to the right, and on the bottom I have 8,  four at either side of the middle. All the teeth at the back are broken or missing due to lack of care over the years. I am embarrassed and talk carefully as not to open my mouth, which causes me to mumble as I don’t pronounce my words properly. I only smile with a closed mouth and have never had a real ‘show your teeth smile’. I hate not doing it due to the embarrassment caused. People see me as miserable as I don’t smile. What options do I have and what sort of costs are involved?

My Teeth Are Broken and Black. What Can Be Done?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2015
Q.

I am 71 and my teeth are broken and black. Could it be helped with a product, or could I have them all out? It would be nice to smile and talk to people without them commenting on my black teeth.

I would like them out but due to ill health and having a heart attack in 2006, is it wise to have this
done at my age? They do not hurt, some of them have broken off and left the root in my gums. They look unsightly to my family and friends, and most of all
myself when I look at them in the mirror.

Can Anyone Be Sedated and How Much Does it Cost?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi, I’m a very nervous patient looking to be sedated so work can be done. It’s been many years since I’ve been to a dentist for this reason (I’ve had bad experiences) but now I’m in pain. I think I need a good few fillings and one tooth is broken really badly. I also have a wisdom tooth coming up which hasn’t got a lot of room. Can anyone be sedated and what is the price? I feel this is my only option as I am so scared. Many thanks.
