I am suffering from great jaw and tooth pain, will veneers and braces help?

Friday, September 14th, 2012
Q.

Hi Andrew, I’m 15 and currently stay in Scotland. I’ve never had braces but I feel I need something done to my teeth to make them less painful and more aesthetically pleasing. When I was younger I fell down the stairs and badly hurt my jaw and teeth. Since then the 4 teeth on my upper jaw, two large and two smaller that are next to main, large ones have been painful and chipped/crooked. When I eat, close my mouth etc they brush against each either and really hurt. I’ve not been given braces but feel like I need something done, I was looking into veneers actually, would you think they’d be a good alternative? What are my options as my parents are at a loss and my local dentist is too!

I have been quoted £8,500 for a new bridge, are dental implants a better option for me?

Friday, September 14th, 2012
Q.

Hi,

Maybe you can advise.. six years ago I had my two incisors removed and two separate maryland bridges placed onto my front two teeth.

One has broken twice and been cemented back in each time. Of the adjoining teeth – one is OK and the other a little decayed where the metal arm joins it (it doesn’t any more).

I have two separate quotes and approaches from two dentists. One involves work on maryland/pontiac bridges to strengthen it circa £2,500 and the other involves removing the two front roots and inserting a large bridge across the gaps left by the four front ones.

I understand the prognosis for the latter is probably better long term. However that’s £8,500.

I also understand that implants might be options especially at that price level.

I am however struggling to understand why the quote for that bridge is £8,500.

Is this a fair appraisal of my options and do you think those costs are reasonable? Thank you.

Q.

hi there, I am considering receiving vaneers but i have receding gums due to a gum infection i had. i am unsure if vaneers are even right for me and if this could be sorted out by a less painfull process, what do you think? my gums have receded to quite far down on my bottom jaw. everywhere else is healthy i think. but the bit at the front (at the bottom) is not the same at all. two of my front bottom teeth are very slightly loose feeling. i do not know if it is just my imagination. all i want to do is to regain my usual smile. please help me. thanks.

Will ClearPath aligners reduce my overbite?

Monday, September 10th, 2012
Q.

Dear Doctor,
Need some advice on ClearPath aligners.
I have an 8mm overjet and the upper front teeths and slightly angled out and gaps between upper four front teeths. If the teeths are pulled back to close the gaps, I think the overjet can be reduced to 5-4mm and and this can close the gaps.Do you think ClearPath aligners can be useful for me.? Do clearpath aligners are used for this kind of malocclusions…? I am 27 years old now.

I can’t clean the gums in between my veneers, will this lead to problems?

Monday, September 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi there,

I had veneers done in spain around 6 years ago and they were done on one plate so all four front veneers are as one and I can’t clean the gums in between – do you think this will lead to problems, it already seems to be as the gums are bleeding and slightly receeding but my question is – should I get all four replaced and if so, what would that likely cost? I am worried I will just face many problems and they are the four front ones so its important they look good too 🙁 can you give me some impartial advice. Does it work to have them all on one plate – if there are already problems will I need to replace them??

thank you in advance!

Is it right that I have to pay £1000 for a brace that is needed for just one tooth?

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012
Q.

Hello, I had some holes filled in my front teeth when I was 18 during which my dentist moved my tooth out of place when drilling my tooth was left in a slanted position and has been this way for the past 8 years my teeth no longer fit together and it wobbles slightly it also rubs on my bottom lip when I close my mouth, I have lost all my confidence I have seen many dentists and they say there is space for it to go back in position and I have been told it may cost £1000 + for just the one tooth to be straightened even though it was a dentist that put me in this position in the first place do I need full braces just for one tooth, I am currently unemployed due to my lack of confidence. thanks for your time.

Would a dental veneer cover my yellow tooth?

Monday, September 3rd, 2012
Q.

Hi I had a consultation last year over my two front teeth and the one to the left of them, I had knocked my two front teeth years before and chipped both and had them filled with white fillings, which are still on them today, one tooth died and I had root canal but since then it has gone yellow, and my two front teeth over time have pushed back, also the tooth next to them went forwards and twisted over time. My question is would a veneer cover the yellow and could I have a veneer over the white fillings? As I really don’t want to have drastic filling and drilling down of my two front teeth! My second question is what are the risks of the Inman brace? As it moves your teeth quickly can you get fractures or damage to the roots of my teeth?

My front tooth has turned grey following root canal treatment, what would you recommend for this problem?

Monday, September 3rd, 2012
Q.

Hello, I hope you are well, so here is my problem: I have a greying front tooth following root canal treatment, a few months ago. I have received conflicting information from several dentists when I have asked what to have done about it. Some of them have recommended that I have a veneer, others say I should try internal bleaching, or crown treatment. As it is my front tooth I want to be sure I select the best treatment, I understand that this is a cosmetic treatment so just wondered what you would personally recommend for this problem?

I don’t feel comfortable smiling because of my partial denture, are dental implants an option for me?

Monday, September 3rd, 2012
Q.

Hello, I have had to wear an upper denture (my 6 front teeth) since 17years old! The ‘so-called’ dentist was more like a butcher telling me it would improve my life and confidence so much! It has succeeded in me never having a ‘confident smile’ and being permanently self conscious! I dread meeting a ‘gentleman’ .I am an attractive women -very fit and healthy but since that day have been miserable! I am now 54 years old -a very fit and youthful 54 I may add. Is it too late to successfully get implants? it makes me weep! I have been a professional singer for over 20 yrs! I hate this! and I Feel miserable! Thank you in advance.
