What Can I Do to Stimulate Gum and Bone Growth?

Monday, March 23rd, 2015
Q.

Hi, I have had quite a bit of gum recession and bone loss. I have glucose level issues and have had hormonal treatments in the past. This is when I seem to have lost control of my gums. I lost chunks of gum during this period. I have had my teeth dealt with by a periodontist and am still having follow up appointments.

I would like to know what I can do to stimulate gum and bone growth. Are there any supplement/medication suggestions or procedures to help, considering that my sugar levels are still a bit high?

Thank you.

Hi There. Is It Possible To Have An Implant And A Crown Put In Immediately After Extraction?

Monday, October 6th, 2014
Q.

Hi there. I have an upper premolar (24) that has undergone RCT and has been heavily restored with a composite filling. My dentist felt that a post crown was not an option as in their opinion the tooth would not be able to support it. I am considering having an implant but I am not keen on the conventional method due to the length of time that the process can take. Is it possible to have an implant plus crown put in immediately after extraction (I know that this would depend on bone density and the area being infection free etc)?
Thank you in advance!

I Can’t Afford To Have A Bone Graft With Dental Implants. Would A Unit 4 Bridge Attached To Implants Be Less Costly?

Monday, September 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I’ve had a bridge for roughly 15 years, it was for one missing central incisor due to a accident as a child but my other central incisor which the wing is attached to is failing and needs to be extracted.  I want implants but due to bone loss I’d need a bone graft for both my two front teeth which I can’t afford as well as dental implants, could I remove both lateral incisors to get immediate implants with a 4 unit bridge to avoid bone graft? Thank you.

Some Stitches Came Out After My Dental Implant Surgery. Will This Lead To Problems In The Future As They Heal?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. Shortly after I was fitted with 2 implants plus bone graft (artificial) just 5 days ago, I discovered on the swab provided immediately after surgery that some of the stitches had come out. Could this be the reason why I can actually see the implants? And could this be a problem as regards future treatment and the healing process? Also what is the likelihood of the procedure being completed by mid-September? Thank you.

My Dentist Said I No Longer Have Enough Bone For Dental Implants. Could You Give Me Second Opinion, Please?

Friday, April 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I hope you can help me with my enquiry. When I was around the age of 13 I had an accident. I knocked my two front teeth out. I was told at the time I needed to wait whilst I was 18 to have dental implants and was given a denture to use in the meantime.

I have been saving the money, I am now 19 and recently went to a dental implant surgeon based where I live. I explained what had happened I got sent for a CT scan and it shows that I have hardly any bone their, the dentist said he doesn’t think I should do it, as the implants may look stupid. Could you give me a second opinion please? Thank you for your time.

I Don’t Eat Sweets, Smoke Or Drink, So Why Are My Teeth Are Rotting Away?

Wednesday, August 28th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I had problems when I was a kid with the dentist my parents picked and since then I’ve never really had much trust in dentists. I want this to change. Since I’ve had kids my teeth keep getting worse and I don’t know what to do please help. I have just been to a new dentist today as I’d lost a filling at the weekend, when he had a look he wasn’t happy with my teeth at all and said who was you’re last dentist and do you eat a lot of sugar food and drink loads of tea when I told him, he looked at me and didn’t believe me.
I’m a veggie, don’t eat sweets and won’t give them the kids, I only drink water as don’t like tea or coffee since my first child, I don’t smoke or drink.
I’m pregnant at the moment and getting very scared over my teeth as he told me the tooth I need treatment on needs a new filling as it was rotten in places. I don’t want all my teeth to rotten away.
Please help, I don’t know what can I do please.

Dr Riten, I Need Your Help With My Loose Teeth. What Can Be Done?

Wednesday, August 21st, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Riten,

To cut a long story short, I am unfortunately suffering the consequences of a protracted period in my life where I never regularly went to the dentist. I have in recent years had some periodontal treatment to try to put some of this right, but I am still having problems. My teeth are actually in quite good shape, it’s my gums and bone loss that is the problem.

I now have some loose teeth, and my gums have receded to quite a large degree. I am also feeling discomfort when eating on one side of my mouth. This has dramatically worsened in the last twelve months.

I am now at a point where it is causing me to feel extremely self conscious, and, despite my nervousness at the thought of getting the situation rectified, I know I must.

I would love to attend the Mulberry Clinic, as I tend to be in the area during the week, and the glowing reports of the clinic are second to none. However, I do live in Taunton in Somerset, and was wondering if there may be somewhere more local to my home address that you could possibly recommend? Any advice would be extremely gratefully received.

Best regards.

Is My Bone Graft Likely To Be As Troublesome As My Dentist Says?

Tuesday, April 30th, 2013
Q.

Dear Andrew,

I have a question about bone grafts for a dental implant (upper left molar).

I am told by my dentist that due to bone loss I will need a bone graft to allow am implant to take. A 360 degree x-ray was taken.

I am however very concerned about the likelihood of the bone graft taking giving what the dentist said.

He indicated that for a 2 month period after the bone draft I would not be able to sneeze or cough (or fly/ swim) since this will dislodge the bone graft. He also said I would have bleeding from my nose from the sinus cavity.

Given at least in the case of coughing / sneezing these activities that are largely involuntary, I am left with the impression that a bone graft is highly likely to fail.

The dentist I saw did indicate he was not the one to perform the bone graft and as such I am unsure of the risks.

Any advice is appreciated.

Kind regards.

My Gum Has Receded Leaving A Gap, How Much For A Crown?

Tuesday, April 9th, 2013
Q.

Hi! When i was 16 i had my two front teeth knocked out by a hockey ball and I had crowns put in. I am now 32 years old and have had x rays done and all is fine but my gum has receded slightly leaving a noticeable gap between my front right tooth and my gum. I want to get this crown replaced and am wondering how much this replacement will cost? and is there a waiting list or a procedure i need to take in order to have this fixed.

kind regards.

My gums have receded due to HIV and cardiovascular problems, what can I do?

Monday, April 23rd, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Moore
I live with HIV and a cardio vascular isues and my gums have receded and have lost quite a few back teeth. The front teeth are in good condition, althought I am concerned that they may also go. I am looking for the best and most cost effective solution as well as a solution that looks good. Could you give me some idea what you consider the best way forward and if possible an idea of costs, and would you be willing to work with me? Is there a method of ‘gum reconstruction?
Many Thanks
