Can You Help Me With My Speech Impediment?

Q.
Hello, I am 30 years old and have had a speech impediment my entire life, mainly G’s, J’s, ish sounds. I was discharged from speech therapy at 5 being told the problem was the shape of my jaw and teeth, and therapy would not help me. I have no overbite or underbite, my teeth just bang together. I cannot extend my top row of teeth to protrude over my bottom row, it’s impossible. Many of my teeth are misshapen. I can’t get on in life because of it, I never smile and never dare say words I know I can’t. I can’t even say my wife’s name, Angela. Ever heard of this before, is there a cure through dentist work? Unfortunately I have to rely on NHS funding and as such need to know if I will even get help with a procedure this size. Anyway, sorry the long rambling, first time I’ve ever asked for advice. PS not a single dentist has ever said anything about any misalignment, jaw/tooth shape problem, but I’ve never told them either. I think it’s not an apparent connection unless I speak words with my problem sounds. Thank you very much for your time, and any input or advice will be immensely appreciated.

Dear Sir

Thank you for your questions. As I only work in the private sector then I cannot advise you on NHS funding for treatment I’m afraid.

An orthodontic/surgical solution may be right for you, but of course we’d need to assess you in person to be sure. In my own practice we have a specialist orthodontist who works closely with a maxilla-facial surgeon for such cases who could help advise you.

Please come and have a consultation with us if you can come to London and we’ll help as much as we can

Kind regards.
