Can Veneers Or Crowns Correct A Severe Overjet? I Don’t Want Braces As I’m Too Old.

Q.
Hi, I was wondering if veneers or crowns can correct a severe overjet? I really do not want to wear braces for 2 years as I feel I’m too old and will be getting married later this year. I am willing to have my teeth ground drastically if that’s what it takes to correct this overjet. I’ve researched that jaw surgery may be an option as well but I am worried this will affect my facial profile. Although my main focus is to straighten my top teeth, I would also consider putting veneers on my bottom teeth to reduce the overjet as well.

Veneers (or crowns) may be able to slightly mask a large overjet but to correct it fully, orthodontics and sometimes surgery on the jaws would be required. We could ‘try out’ what veneers would look like when placed on your lower teeth to help reduce the overjet – this is called a ‘trial smile’ and is made from a diagnostic wax-up. Ask a good cosmetic dentist to assess this for you and maybe carry this test out as your first step in the process. Regards, Mark.
