Can teeth whitening improve my teeth as I have severe fluorosis?

Q.
I have severe fluorisis caused by having fluoride tablets and fluoride in the water as a child. As a child and teenager I was told that my only option would be to have veneers or caps and I didn’t like the idea of losing my real enamel and then having to replace them. My dentist mentioned tooth whitening and wondered what options there are and how I can go about finding a reputable dentist who would understand my condition? thanks

From my own experience, a high quality tooth whitening treatment, applied with patience, can be very effective at treating mild fluorosis. The severity of the fluorosis may not allow a good result, but the whitening is often the first treatment to try, before commiting to more advanced, expensive, or destructive treatments. We could assess your suitability at an assessment. An alternative may be some very light bonding, using composite resin. I hope that answers your questions and if you want to come and see me in my practice we’d be delighted to offer you some advice.

Kind regards
