After Cracking A Tooth I Didn’t See The Dentist For A Long Time. Now The Root Canal Treatment Hurts. Is This Normal?

Q.
Hi Mark. I am looking for a bit of expert advice as I am a bit weary of the dentist I have been using. I cracked my tooth and left it for a long time. When the pain was too much I went to the dentist and he said I needed to root canal. I have been going to him for the past 3 weeks and he has inserted a rod in one of the canals but not the others yet. I am in constant pain. I am still on my antibiotics but I keep telling him how sore it is and it is like he keeps dismissing me. Is it normal to be in so much pain? Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi. I would firstly speak to your dentist. Root canal therapy can be uncomfortable during and after treatment, especially if you left the tooth to get infected for several years!

Then if things do not settle or you are not satisfied with the explanations from your dentist I would go and seek a second opinion from a specialist endodontist. I hope things settle down for you soon. Regards, Mark.
