A dentist from Workington has successfully scaled Mount Kilimanjaro as part of a unique honeymoon adventure.

Anthony Davies and his wife, Laura, got married in December last year but delayed their honeymoon to tackle the enormous mountain at the best possible time of year. Last month, the intrepid duo arrived in Tanzania to start their ascent. The couple enjoys walking and they have spent a lot time in the Lakes and various other national parks in the UK, but Anthony admitted that they had never attempted anything on the scale of Mount Kilimanjaro. Despite the scale of the challenge, the duo was keen to take on the trek.

The Belevedere Dental Practice dentist reached the summit after six days of gruelling hikes and Anthony and Laura encountered their fair share of challenges along the way. The ascent is very slow to enable you to acclimatise and for hours on end, all you can see is a blanket of cloud. Anthony ran into difficulties when his water line froze, but thankfully, Laura’s continued to flow and the pair reached the peak feeling exhausted but elated. Anthony admitted that it was the hardest thing he had ever done, but also one of the best experiences on his life.

Anthony and Laura have documented their Kilimanjaro adventure online through a blog entitled ‘Mt Kilimanjaro Hakuna Matata.’
