The new state of the art facility will cost around 4.7 million pounds and will make a huge difference to both dental care and education in the region. The amazing new centre will contain seven general surgeries, as well as five specialist dental training practices. The excellent training facilities will benefit students from a number of Scottish universities and will be overseen by NHS Education for Scotland.

The new teach and treat centre will be decked out with state of the art technology, excellent training and educational facilities and comfortable, clean patient areas. Patients in the local area will benefit from greater NHS provision and students will be able to learn in the best possible surroundings. It is hoped that the new facility will also encourage students to want to come and learn and subsequently practise in the area, which will help to ensure patients have access to NHS services without having to travel or wait long periods of time for treatment.

Foundations were laid yesterday as building work commences on the project; Gordon Jamieson, the Chief Executive of NHS Western Isles said this was an important stage of the building project that signalled exciting times ahead. The build is going according to schedule and people in the area are looking forward to the excellent opportunities this new facility will offer.

The new centre will open in the grounds of the Western Isles hospital on Macaulay Road.
