Woolwich dentist launches petition to save her NHS practice

A dentist from Woolwich has launched a petition to try and save her NHS practice. Dr Fariba Fekrazad is struggling to find a new location for her NHS surgery as a result of regeneration plans announced by Greenwich Council.

New proposals focus on the regeneration of Spray Street, with residents set to benefit from a new cinema, offices, restaurants and shops, but not everyone is happy about the plans. Dr Fekrazad said that she doesn’t want to move from the town, but the council is making it difficult for her to find alternative premises. The current location is close to transport links in the heart of the community and moving would make it more difficult for thousands of patients to access NHS dental care on their doorstep.

Dr Fekrazad suggests that losing the business would jeopardise the health of 19,000 patients. In response to the plans, she has launched a petition, which has so far garnered support from more than 250 people. She is aiming to prove to the council that the surgery is required within the community and that it matters to local dental patients.

Mushab Malik, a patient at the practice, said that it is easily accessible and he is very happy with the service he receives. If the surgery was to close, this would make it more difficult to access NHS dental treatment and it would also be an upheaval for many patients, as it can often be difficult to find a dentist and build a relationship with them.
