Witney Dental Practice Refurbished After Boiler Leak

A Witney dental practice has undergone extensive refurbishment after a leaky boiler caused £90,000 worth of damage.

The incident occurred in March after months of staff members monitoring the condition of the 200 year old building carefully following flooding in the area. Sandbags were placed outside and staff thought they had managed to ride the storm until one of the cleaner’s smelled damp and discovered an inch of water on the floor. The boiler, which had only been repaired a fortnight before, had burst, pouring water throughout and causing almost £100,000 worth of damage.

Judith Carlisle, the practice manager, said that after heavy rain in the local area for prolonged spells in the winter, everyone let out a sigh of relief when the weather started to relent and it looked as the though the historic building has survived. No later than 2 weeks after the sandbags were removed, the boiler burst and there was a different kind of flood. The practice remained open, however, and the team carried on as normal. As Judith said, it was just a case of bad luck, and now the refurbishments are complete and the surgery looks great.

The practice has 3,500 patients on the list and working through the repairs was difficult, especially as there was limited space available. The process has been traumatic for owners, dentists and husband and wife team, Julie Owen and Anil Baboolal, who have ploughed many years of savings and hard work into the surgery, but now the work is finished and everyone can look forward to the future.
