A dentist and local residents are celebrating after plans for a dental surgery were approved by the council planning committee.

Planning officers from Forest Heath District Council had called for Dr Diana Knight’s plans for a surgery in Boundary Road to be scrapped, on the grounds that the surgery would disrupt local village life. However, at a meeting with the council planning committee, local residents and members of the council backed Dr Knight’s proposals and the Boundary Road practice will now be opened as planned.

Dr Knight is planning to convert the property as quickly as possible and plans to open the surgery to the public in November. She already owns a practice in Barton Mills and is delighted with the council’s decision. Local residents are also celebrating the news, with many patients keen to sign up with the new surgery. The practice will initially take NHS patients but private patients will be invited to register in due course; in total, it is expected that the dental practice will serve around 1,500 patients.

Pat McCLoud, a councillor, said that she was really pleased with the decision because a dental practice is a valuable local amenity and a service that would be of great benefit to residents.
