Vacant Shoreham shop to be converted into new NHS dental surgery

A shop in Shoreham-by-Sea, which has been vacant for six months, is set to become a new NHS dental surgery.

Plans to convert the premises on Brunswick Road have been welcomed by councillors. In the last year or so, traders and retailers have found it difficult to stay afloat, especially following the closure of the local post office. Councillors feel that a new dental practice would undoubtedly benefit the local population, but they also think that it could have a positive impact on local businesses.

The shop has been on the market for six months, but there has been very little interest, and councillors are hoping that a new practice will encourage more people to visit the area. The surgery will be managed by mydentist, one of the UK’s largest dental chains.

The ground floor of the premises will house the dental surgery, while the upstairs rooms will continue to be used as office space.

Stephen Chipp, conservative councillor for Southwick Green, described the situation as a “no-brainer”, stating that the surgery would serve local patients at the same time as bringing business to retailers based on Brunswick Street. The move was also backed by Labour councillor, Catherine Arnold, who expressed hopes that nearby retailers would benefit in the wake of the closure of the post office.
