Union County dental outreach initiative to be expanded following $3 million donation from local family

A dental outreach initiative, which is designed to improve standards of oral health among Union County’s children, is set to be expanded after a local family made a donation worth $3 million to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Bob Brown and his family have supported the hospital over a period of time, and their generous donation will enable programme supervisors to extend successful initiatives, including one designed to tackle dental health problems and promote prevention in Union County.

Mr Brown made the donation in memory of his late wife, Joyce, and said that it was an honour to support local schemes that benefit children. Arkansas Children’s Hospital has a special place in Mr Brown’s heart, and he knows that his donation will help thousands of children in the local area.

Mr Brown’s money will help to provide continued funding for a mobile dental unit, which tours schools in Union County. The clinic on wheels provides a host of services that are designed both to prevent and treat dental health issues, including routine dental checks, root canals, cleaning treatments and fillings. The money will also be used to fund a preventative sealant programme, which will help to lower rates of decay, and home dental visits for the families of newborn babies.

According to the latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, almost 20% of children in the US need dental care.
