Research carried out by the British Dental Health Foundation has revealed that the Tooth Fairy is leaving more than 16 million pounds under pillows every year in the UK.

The survey found that parents leave an average of one pound per tooth and six out of ten children find money under their pillows the morning after they lose a tooth, with almost 65 percent of children receiving £1 per milk tooth. One in ten children were lucky enough to get at least £2 per milk tooth.

The survey showed that children in Yorkshire and Humberside received the most on average, with figures showing that the average treat was £1.45, compared to just £0.86, which was the average payment in the West Midlands.

The survey was carried out as part of National Smile Month, a national campaign which is run by the British Dental Health Foundation. The campaign is running across the country until the 15th June and a number of events and activities are taking place. The aims of the campaign are to raise awareness of the importance of good oral health and to encourage children to get involved in oral health.
