Tooth-breaking teen flees in fear of murder
A teenager who broke a man’s tooth and jaw ran away because he thought his victim was dead.
Kieran Wilkins, from Lydbrook in Gloucestershire, attacked a man despite no provocation and then ran for it because he believed he had killed his victim.
On 20 February, Wilkins, 19, punched William Satterly knocking him to the ground. The victim broke his teeth and jaw and sustained a number of cuts and bruises to his head.
This Is Gloucestershire reports that the teenager appeared before magistrates on 13 October and pleaded guilty to assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Louise Pinder, prosecuting, said a witness issued a statement claiming the defendant appeared from nowhere and punched Mr Satterly, who was outside waiting for a taxi.
Ms Pinder added that Wilkins admitted he had been drinking and claimed he ran off because he feared that Mr Satterly was dead.
Leo Goatley, the solicitor for the defence, said that his client, Wilkins, felt anxious by Mr Satterly’s stance as some words were exchanged and told the court how Wilkins had suffered a bad injury in a similar situation when his lip was bitten off.
He added that the teenager had expressed regret and claimed that his client accepted he had acted inappropriately.
The case has now been adjourned for sentencing until 3 November 2009. Wilkins was granted conditional bail as he has no prior convictions.
