Timperley pre-schoolers get a lesson in dental hygiene

Children from a nursery in Timperley have been learning about how to keep their teeth healthy after receiving a visit from a local dental nurse.

Children from Bright Horizons Day Nursery and Preschool were treated to a visit from a local dental nurse recently as part of a programme to teach kids about healthy oral hygiene habits. During her time at the nursery, the nurse read the children some stories about going to the dentist, and chatted to the children about brushing their teeth, having dental check-ups and choosing which foods to eat. At the end of the session, the children took part in a demonstration to show the nurse and their teachers what they had learned from her visit.

Emma Dunsmore, deputy manager of the nursery, said that the visit was a great way to introduce children to the idea of going to the dentist and enable them to learn more about what happens when you go to the dentist and how to look after your teeth. For some children, the idea of going to the dentist may be a little scary, and meeting the nurse will hopefully help them to see that there’s nothing to be worried about. The children enjoyed the role play scenarios, and they learned a lot of valuable lessons at the same time as having lots of fun.
