Thurrock college launches community dental programme to promote healthy smiles

Sample News Big

Thurrock Community College has launched a dental programme to help local families learn more about oral health and the importance of looking after your teeth and gums.

The college has developed an interactive workshop scheme, which is designed to educate parents and children using fun activities. The tooth fairy workshop was put together to celebrate National Smile Month, which ran from the middle of May to the middle of June. As part of the scheme, children in reception and year 1 classes were encouraged to participate in activities, such as receiving letters from the tooth fairy and making envelopes to leave for the tooth fairy’s visit.

The workshops aim to teach children about brushing and cleaning, educate parents about sugar consumption and nutrition and encourage both adults and children to visit the dentist on a regular basis.

The project has been put together by Julia Wright, family learning manager at the college, and Debbie Farrell, lead regional manager for Career Ready, based in Essex, and a number of local schools have benefited already.
