The New Dental Implants: Straumann Presents 'Roxolid™'
Straumann has introduced a new stronger and smaller dental implant made of titanium and zirconium trademarked under the name Roxolid™. This alloy was designed especially for dental implants, and is fifty percent stronger than titanium implants. It was showcased at the Annual European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) (17th session, Warsaw, Poland), Roxolid™ was shown pre-clinically to be better at osseointegration than pure titanium. Roxolid™ makes a new generation of smaller, safer implants, accessible that would allow implants to be used in areas of the mouth with limited space available between teeth and narrow ridges, where an increase in bone supply would be required.
Roxolid™ at present is involved in clinical trials in six different countries. Preliminary results (i.e., 6 to 12 months), have revealed very hopeful rates of implant survival. Roxolid™ could be available by 2009 for initial marketing, depending on more positive results and anticipated regulatory approval.
