Temporary dentures solve"unsightly gaps"
A study in the Academy of General Dentistry's (AGD's) clinical journal revealed that 86 per cent of dentists report that their patients' biggest fear of losing a tooth is the associated social embarrassment.
However, with interim removable dentures, people can still smile with pride while waiting for a more permanent fixture, explained the AGD.
AGD spokesperson Laura Murcko said: "Unsightly gaps in the mouth do not have to be part of a person's permanent appearance."
"A great smile serves as an individual's most powerful tool," she added.
The study also revealed that temporary dentures can act as a space maintainer for people who have lost teeth as a result of trauma and also allow them to eat regular food.
Some dentists recommend dental implants as a replacement procedure for dentures, which involves building a ceramic tooth-coloured restoration around an anchor in the patients jaw.
