Teeth whitening treatments addressed by GDC

Sample News Big

The General Dental Council (GDC) may be about to relax its guidelines on who can and cannot carry out tooth whitening, it has been reported.

According to Dentistry.co.uk, the GDC has been consulting on draft guidance which could allow various different members of the dental team to perform the treatment.

These could include dental nurses, hygienists, therapists and technicians along with those in the orthodontics trade, the source explained.

However, the guidance makes clear that professional dentists do need to be involved in supervising or prescribing tooth whitening.

The deadline on the consultation is March 9th of this year.

Other treatments such as bone harvesting, Botox and collagen fillers are also to be debated, continuing the debate over whether dentists are trained well enough to perform such procedures.

The Botox industry is currently self-governed with intent to reassess the issue in 2010, the Daily Telegraph reports.ADNFCR-1374-ID-18485869-ADNFCR
