Residents of Tyron Close, in East Swindon, are up in arms after plans were revealed to turn a disused dental surgery into flats.

Almost thirty objections have been submitted to the council following the news that plans are being considered to turn the former dental surgery into multi-occupancy housing. The plans have been submitted by Platinum Property Partners, a firm that specialises in affordable housing.

Many residents are worried that the change of use will create problems with parking and traffic, as well as creating more noise in the area and impacting on green spaces.

Janet Jelly, from Tyron Close, said that everyone is very angry about the plans and a petition has already attracted more than 40 signatures. Locals feel that the close is very quiet and a new block of flats would increase noise, as well as adding to parking problems, which are already an issue. Some neighbours are also worried about the impact of the building work on green spaces, as some trees have already been knocked down.

Kathleen Gillespie, another resident, said that she whole-heartedly objects to the plans due to the parking issue.

Mrs Jelly has presented the petition to local MP, Robert Buckland, who agreed that there were concerns about building a multi-occupancy housing unit in the residential area.

The plans also contain details of a single storey and a first floor extension to the side or front of the premises. The council is expected to consider the application at a meeting on the 10th September.
