Sweet Tooth for a Good Cause: A Dental Practice in Grantham Bakes Cakes for Charity

As part of a charity Friday morning, patients at The Maltings Dental Practice in Grantham got to tuck in to coffee and an array of homemade cakes in order to raise money for a foodbank in Grantham.

The initiative was set up by Julie McKie, one of The Maltings’ dental nurses and a volunteer at the foodbank, who is passionate about fundraising. The foodback was looking for 100 volunteers to raise £50 each, which would allow the bank to buy 5000 meals.

With an array of cakes which included a selection of vegan, gluten free, low fat and fruit and vegetable cakes, as well as donation and involvement from patients and staff alike, The Maltings managed to raise £170 for Grantham Foodbank.

Brian Hanbury, co-ordinator for Grantham Foodbank praised the “massive effort” made by the clinic, staff and patients alike, and said that all of the money raised will buy personal and oral hygiene items such as mouthwash, toothbrushes and toothpaste, items that the foodbank sometimes has difficulty in acquiring.
