Swadlincote Dental Practice to Offer Free Oral Cancer Checks

Sample News Big

A Swadlincote dental practice is offering free oral cancer checks in support of Mouth Cancer Awareness Month.

The national campaign will run throughout November and dental clinics across the country will be encouraging patients to take advantage of short, simple screening checks. The team at Delph Dental Practice is doing its bit to get the vital messages of the Oral Health Foundation’s campaign across. The surgery will be hosting free screening on Friday 25th November. Free appointments are available for patients and those who are not registered with the surgery.

Rebecca Moss, a dentist who has recently joined the team, will be carrying out routine cancer checks. The tests last just a few minutes and they are designed to pick up any warnings signs of oral cancer, such as lumps or swelling, red or white patches in the mouth and ulcers or lesions that take a long time to heal. The dental team is also encouraging patients to be mouth-aware and look out for changes in the mouth.

Practice manager Amy Booth explained that early detection can make the difference between life and death and this is why screening and regular dental checks are so important. Dentists are trained to identify potential warning signs and they can then refer patients for further tests. Often, when symptoms become visible, the cancer is already at an advanced stage and the chance of successful treatment is lower. By encouraging screening, hopefully, any problems can be identified as early as possible.
