A Sunderland dentist has helped improve the oral health of hundreds of people from Peru.
Dr Dave Wilson, along with a team of professionals, raised the more than £1,200 which funded the carrying out of 217 fillings and 306 extractions for sore-toothed Peruvians from Pamura and Asacasi.
The dentist, who practices from Olivers Dental Studio, East Herrington, now wants to raise at least £2,000 so he can carry on with his good work.
Dr Wilson, who is part of the Dental Project Peru, said that despite the Apurimac region being very remote the importation of sugary foods and fizzy drinks is causing massive problems for the local population’s teeth.
Dental Project Peru was set up in 2001 by Jacqui Kotula when she noticed a lot of people in South America were suffering an excruciating amount of pain from their teeth.
