A brand new dental clinic in Stornoway has become the first practice to open in the Western Isles for 30 years.

Castleview Practice, which has opened on Cromwell Street, will offer NHS dental treatment for local residents. Mr Sridhar Kalvakuntla, the owner, described the move as a “big responsibility,” but added that it was a very exciting challenge. The aim is to try and reduce waiting times and work through a waiting list and to ensure patients remain free of dental pain. The practice is actively promoting preventative care and services, and Mr Kalvakuntla and his team also specialise in providing dental care for nervous patients. The practice has been designed to provide a stress-free, calming setting and high levels of patient satisfaction is one of the main goals.

The new dental practice has a team comprising two dentists, a dental hygienist, a dental therapist, six dental nurses and two receptionists, and thousands of NHS dental places will be available.

Chief dental officer at NHS Western Isles, Colin Robertson, said that the new clinic will offer patients more choice and make a positive impact on waiting times in the region. The new premises were described as “exceptional” by Mr Robertson. The facility boasts stylish, modern treatment rooms, which are kitted out with the latest equipment and offer patients beautiful views of Lews Castle.
