A dental practice in Skegness is offering patients the chance to have a free oral screening check on Friday 15th November.

Clark Dental Studio is offering free screening to support Mouth Cancer Action Month, which will run throughout the month of November. The campaign is organised by the British Dental Health Foundation and practices all over the country will be encouraging patients to have the quick and simple test in a bid to save lives and increases awareness of oral cancer.

Julian Clark said that dentists have an important role to play in educating their patients about the causes and symptoms of oral cancer and as far more than half of the population have seen their dentist in the last two years, dentists can use check-ups to spot warning signs and talk to their patients about oral cancer. The number of cases of mouth cancer has almost doubled in the last ten years, but surveys show that many people are still unaware of the symptoms of the disease and this means that people are not seeing their dentist or doctor early enough.

Screening tests will be available at the practice, which is located on Aligtha Road between 9am and midday on Friday 15th November and they are available to new and existing patients of the practice.

The checks are quick and they are not painful; the dentist uses an instrument to check for changes in the soft tissue in the mouth, which will be followed by a quick chat about the causes of mouth cancer and the signs to look out for.

The chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter OBE said that early detection is vital and encouraged as many people as possible to get involved in Mouth Cancer Action Month.
