Sheffield dentists submit application to extend opening hours

Dentists from a clinic, which is due to open soon in Sheffield, are applying to extend its opening hours.

The owners of The Hightrees Clinic in Dore originally applied for opening hours between 9am and 6pm on weekdays and 9am until 2pm on Saturdays, but they have since reviewed the times and decided to try and extend the hours. The owners were hoping to open until 7.30pm on weekdays and 5pm on Saturdays with a surgery between 10am and 4pm on Sundays, but local residents objected. The practice is now set to open until 7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 5pm on Saturdays, with an emergency out of hours’ services available until 8pm every day if the application is approved.

The clinic, which is housed in a former post office, is not yet open, and the owners are hoping to adjust the opening times before the official opening to maximise the availability of appointments and prevent confusion. Although the clinic is surrounded by other commercial ventures, there are residential properties in the area, and the council will consider objections made to the previous application before they reach a decision.

The application has been recommended provisionally, but a final decision will be made at a meeting of members of the city council’s planning and highways committee on the 12th June. If the new opening times are approved, the clinic will be more accessible to a wider range of patients, and it will be easier for patients who work full-time and those who have children to see a dentist without organising time off or taking their kids out of school.
