Sale dental team launches new oral cancer screening scheme

Sample News Big

A dental team from Sale has launched a new oral cancer screening scheme.

Dr Aisha Ahmed and the team from Sale Dental Spa have been out and about offering free oral cancer screening in a bid to raise awareness of the disease, and encourage people to get checked out. At the first event, Dr Ahmed and the team screened 30 members of staff from the Intu Trafford Centre.

The practice is now working out logistics for future events, and has advised the public to look out for further information about screening locations.

Oral cancer has become more prevalent in the UK in recent years, yet many people are still unaware of causes and symptoms. In the last decade alone, the number of cases has increased by a third. The main risk factors are smoking and drinking alcohol; however, there is also evidence to suggest a link between oral cancer and some strains of HPV (human papilloma virus). Symptoms to look out for include red or white patches in the mouth, unexplained oral pain, abnormal swelling, ulcers that take a long time to heal, and a persistent sore throat.

For more information about oral cancer screening or the new initiative, dental patients are encouraged to call the practice directly.
