Rub Toothpaste onto the Teeth to Prevent Decay

Sample News Big

Most people are aware that brushing the teeth helps to reduce the risk of decay, but researchers in Sweden have revealed that rubbing toothpaste onto the teeth and gums during the day quadruples protection against decay.

The research team, which is based at the University of Gothenburg, found that rubbing toothpaste onto the teeth made a huge difference, reducing the risk of decay as a result of increasing fluoride protection by 400 percent. The research team suggested rubbing fluoridated toothpaste directly on to the teeth after lunch and following the normal brushing routine in the mornings and evenings.

Researchers used a high-fluoride toothpaste, which is available over the counter and observed 16 participants. Dr Anna Nordstrom, lead researcher, said that the massage technique proved to be at least as effective as brushing the teeth during the day, but insisted that rubbing fluoridated toothpaste onto the teeth should not be used as a replacement for brushing.

Fluoride occurs naturally, but many communities add fluoride to the water to reduce rates of decay. The mineral has been found to prevent decay by strengthening the teeth. Despite the positive effects of fluoride, only 10 percent of towns in England have fluoridated water, compared to 60 percent in the USA. Fluoride is widely supported by dentists and public health experts, including the British Dental Association, but its use does stir debate, as some people believe that fluoride is harmful for general health.

Children are at high risk for tooth decay because adolescents tend to be lax in their oral hygiene habits. Proper brushing and flossing routines, combined with regular dental visits, help keep tooth decay away. thanks for sharing.
